To lead the day-to-day running of the nursery room, ensuring children receive outstanding care, learning, and development opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The Room Leader is responsible for maintaining a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment, leading the room team, and ensuring high standards of practice are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day management and organisation of the nursery room.
- Supervise, support, and motivate practitioners, students, and apprentices.
- Plan staff deployment to ensure children's needs and statutory ratios are consistently met.
- Monitor the quality of practice and provide guidance to the room team.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, presentation, and resources.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding room performance, staffing, and children's needs.
- Deliver high-quality care and education in line with the EYFS and Birth to Five Matters.
- Lead curriculum planning and provide engaging, stimulating learning opportunities.
- Monitor children's progress through accurate observations, assessments, and learning records.
- Support children's individual learning, development, wellbeing, and next steps.
- Promote positive behaviour, independence, and inclusive practice.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children at all times.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and welfare requirements.
- Oversee the accurate completion of accident, incident, medication, and care records.
- Promote children's health, hygiene, and wellbeing throughout the day.
- Build positive and professional relationships with parents and carers.
- Share information with families regarding children's learning, development, and wellbeing.
- Lead parent meetings and support children's transitions.
- Work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Ensure compliance with nursery policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Attend meetings, supervision sessions, and training while promoting continuous improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality and undertake any other reasonable duties requested by management.
Person Specification
- Level 3 Early Years Childcare qualification.
- Minimum of 1 year's experience working with children aged 0β5 years.
- Previous experience leading or supervising an Early Years team.
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS, Birth to Five Matters, safeguarding, and child development.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and make informed decisions.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
