We are a friendly, supportive GP practice based in Walkden, currently looking to recruit a Medical Receptionist to join our friendly team, 16 hours per week, 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday and Tuesday (flexibility will be required to work additional hours and days to cover for holidays and sickness).
Previous experience as a GP receptionist or in a similar medical setting preferred. Basic IT skills, with experience using EMIS Web preferred.
Main duties of the job
The role involves a blend of administrative and front-line patient support duties within a General Practice (GP) setting. Key responsibilities include:
- Patient Records Management: Summarising and maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Registration: Handling new patient registrations.
- KPI Monitoring: Supporting the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including QOF (Quality and Outcomes Framework) and Local and Direct Enhanced Service (LES and DES) targets.
- Patient Interaction: Managing high volumes of incoming patient calls, particularly during busy morning hours, providing support, information, and booking appointments.
- Prescription Requests: Processing repeat prescription requests in a timely and accurate manner.
- Document Management: Scanning, filing, read-coding and uploading clinical and administrative documents to patient records.

Our surgery is led by three GP clinical Partners who work together to ensure the highest standard of care for our patients. In addition to our three clinical partners, we have a Nurse Practitioner, Senior Practice Nurse, HCA and Phlebotomist. The day-to-day operations of the surgery are managed by our Practice Manager and Deputy Practice Manager who ensures a friendly, welcoming and professional atmosphere for both staff and our patients. Supporting our operations, we have a team of 8 skilled administrative and reception staff members. Their training, efficiency, and commitment are vital to the seamless running of our practice. We are proud to serve a patient population of 4900 here at The Limes Medical Centre.
Job responsibilities
To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception and administrative duties and the provision of general support to the multidisciplinary team. Duties include, greeting, and directing patients, patient registration, booking appointments, processing of information (electronic and hard copy) and assisting patients as required. To act as the central point of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages, and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service provider.
Job responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system.
- Process triage and telephone requests for appointments.
- Book all nursing appointments.
- Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the caller's request appropriately.
- Signpost patients to the correct service when care navigating.
- Booking appointments for patients and external agencies as required.
- Process incoming and outgoing emails.
- Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies.
- Process repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Photocopy documentation as required.
- File and store records as required.
- Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required.
- Input data into the patients' healthcare records as necessary.
- Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients' healthcare records.
- Accept payment for private medical work.
- Manage all queries (including administrative queries) as necessary in an efficient manner.
- Accept deliveries from couriers.
- Ensure the pathology samples are collected.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
- Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested.
