Part of London + Regional Hotels, The Lensbury Resort is located on the Banks of the River Thames at Teddington and is home to an exclusive leisure club, a 155-bedroom hotel, meeting and events space, restaurant and bar, Spa and 25 acres of gardens and grounds. Our Racquets facilities include multiple tennis surfaces (4 clay, 3 grass, 4 artificial grass, 8 floodlit macadam, 3 floodlit mini and 2 mini red artificial grass courts), alongside 2 full-sized squash courts, 3 Pickleball courts and 2 new Padel courts.
The Role
The Racquets Manager reports directly to the Club General Manager and is responsible for the strategic leadership and safe, efficient day to day operation of all Racquet sports, including Tennis, squash, pickleball and padel. You will manage the freelance coaching team and the Tennis Administrator, ensuring exceptional member experience and commercial success.
Leadership and people management
- Lead and develop the racquets team, including freelance coaches and the Tennis Administrator.
- Work closely with the coaching team to improve the offering and coaching standard.
- Mentor and support the coaches’ professional development.
- Be visible, available, and actively involved in the Racquets areas at peak times.
Operational excellence
- Maintain the highest standard of coaching techniques whilst tailoring sessions to cater to a range of skill levels, ensuring a dynamic, fun and engaging learning environment for all players.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of all participants by adhering to club safeguarding policies and procedures and LTA standards, whilst promoting a positive and inclusive sporting environment.
- Ensure a high standard of Health & Safety and compliance across all of Racquets.
- Ensure clear and effective communication with all stakeholders.
Programme development and delivery
- Design and deliver a successful comprehensive coaching programme for juniors and adults including:
- Junior & Adult Development Programme
- Squash Coaching
- Competitive Programme for Adult and Juniors
- Adult Coaching Programme
- Holiday Camps
- Coaching Clinics
- Club Competitions and Tournaments
- Social Tennis Programme
- Pickleball
- Padel
Financial and commercial accountability
- Oversee booking systems and performance tracking tools.
- Produce monthly performance reports, including usage data; highlight patterns and take appropriate action on underperforming areas.
- Manage Racquets department budget and P&L.
- Achieve revenue targets and KPI’s.
- Ensure all contracts, licences and documentation required for the safe and effective operation of the Racquets department are in place and adhered to.
Member engagement and marketing
- Build strong relationship with members and coaches to foster a Racquets community.
- Engage regularly with the Tennis Focus Group.
- Collaborate with Marketing to promote programmes and events.
- Respond promptly to member feedback and implement improvements, to maintain satisfaction and retention.
What we’re looking for:
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications, attitude, behaviours, skills, and values:
- LTA Level 4 or 5 accredited coach (exceptional Level 3 candidates may be considered).
- Padel experience and/or LTA Padel Instructor qualification.
- Proven leadership and organisational skills.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to manage budgets.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Passion for racquet sports and commitment to member experience.
