We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly and supportive clinical team at Leith Hill Practice on a part-time, permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Healthcare Assistant, or someone looking to develop a long-term career within General Practice. We are committed to supporting our staff through ongoing training and professional development, enabling you to expand your clinical skills and progress within primary care.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work closely with our GPs, Practice Nurses and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. You will undertake a range of clinical procedures, support chronic disease management, promote health and wellbeing, and contribute to the safe and effective running of our clinical services. We are keen to invest in the successful candidate and will provide training and development opportunities to broaden your skills, including additional clinical competencies where appropriate.

  • The Old Forge Surgery, 168 The Street, Capel, RH5 5EN
  • Northbrook Surgery, Warwick Road, South Holmwood, RH5 4NP

Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to provide safe, effective care and is committed to continuous learning, innovation and service improvement. Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will undertake a wide range of clinical duties appropriate to their level of competence, including:

  • Blood pressure monitoring.
  • Recording height, weight and BMI.
  • Electrocardiograms (ECGs).
  • Urinalysis.
  • NHS Health Checks.
  • Spirometry and FeNO testing (training will be provided if required).
  • Supporting chronic disease monitoring and annual patient reviews.
  • Administering vaccinations and immunisations where appropriately trained and competent.
  • Assisting clinicians during minor surgery and other clinical procedures.
  • Preparing and maintaining clinical rooms, ensuring they remain clean, fully stocked and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic patient records using SystmOne.
  • Providing health promotion, lifestyle advice and patient education.
  • Working collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within General Practice, community or another healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Caring, compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and develop additional clinical skills.
  • Access to your own transport due to travel between practice sites.
  • Experience performing ECGs.
  • Experience using SystmOne.
  • Experience completing NHS Health Checks.
  • Care Certificate.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Experience of spirometry and/or FeNO testing.
