The Leicester Arms is looking for an experienced, energetic and hands-on Assistant General Manager to join our management team at our beautiful country pub and inn in the heart of Penshurst. Part of the Little & Large Pub Company, The Leicester Arms combines a busy restaurant and bar with 11 individually designed bedrooms, private dining, events and a large garden. Following an extensive refurbishment, the pub has established itself as a destination for great food, drinks, stays and genuine hospitality.
We’re looking for someone who loves being on the floor, enjoys leading a team and understands that great hospitality comes from consistently getting the little things right.
The Role
Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the business and help ensure consistently high standards across food, drink, bedrooms and guest experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading busy restaurant and bar services
- Supporting the General Manager with the daily operation of the business
- Training, developing and motivating the front-of-house team
- Ensuring consistently high standards of guest service
- Managing shifts, briefings and team deployment
- Handling guest feedback and resolving issues professionally
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and attention to detail
- Supporting bedroom operations and ensuring our accommodation standards are maintained
- Helping manage rotas, labour costs and payroll controls
- Monitoring sales, service standards and key operational KPIs
- Supporting stock control, ordering and cash management
- Helping deliver private events, celebrations and functions
- Ensuring company procedures, licensing, health & safety and compliance standards are followed
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and ongoing team development
- Taking responsibility for the venue when the General Manager is not present
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous management experience within a quality pub, restaurant, hotel or hospitality business
- Is confident running a busy service
- Is naturally warm, engaging and guest-focused
- Has strong leadership skills and enjoys developing people
- Leads from the front rather than managing from the office
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Understands commercial performance, labour management and cost control
- Is organised, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility
- Can remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
- Wants to progress their hospitality career within a growing independent pub company
- Experience within a business combining food, beverage and bedrooms would be particularly beneficial.
