Are you interested in leading, growing, and developing a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, and data modelers — setting a high bar for quality and impact, and creating an environment where strong technical people want to stay and do their best work? Bring your proven track record of driving data transformation at scale within a large, complex, matrixed enterprise — not just building teams but changing how a business uses data. Come join the Data Office of the LEGO Group!
Core Responsibilities
- Partner with cluster leaders to shape and deliver the data and AI agenda across the domain, bringing expertise they don’t have in-house and a cross-cutting view of what’s working elsewhere.
- Lead, grow, and develop a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, and data modellers — setting a high bar for quality and impact, and creating an environment where strong technical people want to stay and do their best work.
- Sit on the domain's technology leadership team as the data and AI expert, helping cluster leaders make informed investment decisions and ensuring data capabilities are part of the conversation when roadmaps are set.
- Surface the highest-value data and AI opportunities across the domain, working with cluster leaders to build the case for new capabilities and ensuring the team can deliver against agreed priorities.
- Be the bridge between your domain and the enterprise data platform, ensuring platform investment is crafted by real business needs and that your teams can move fast on the tools they have.
- Own the domain's data landscape — building a clear, shared understanding of what data exists, what matters, where quality gaps create risk, and where untapped data creates opportunity.
- Continuously refine the operating model for how the Data Office collaborates with product, engineering, Analytics & Insights, and business partners in this area — making the seams invisible.
Play your part in our team succeeding
The Data Office provides the LEGO Group with its enterprise data platform, data governance frameworks, and standard methodologies for data and AI. Alongside these horizontal capabilities, we embed vertical teams directly into parts of the business — working shoulder-to-shoulder with domain leaders to raise data maturity and deliver outcomes that matter. This role leads one of those vertical teams. You will hold a seat on both the Data Office leadership team and the domain's technology leadership team — a dual mandate that gives you unusual breadth of influence and requires someone who can operate credibly across both strategic and technical conversations. You will work across multiple cluster leaders, each with their own priorities, giving you a unique cross-cutting perspective that no individual cluster leader has. Success means being a genuine partner — bringing the data and AI expertise that helps cluster leaders achieve their ambitions.
Do you have what it takes?
- Proven track record of driving data transformation at scale within a large, complex, matrixed enterprise — not just building teams, but changing how a business uses data.
- Experience leading data science teams that have delivered commercially impactful work such as demand forecasting, recommendation engines, personalisation, or similar.
- The credibility and communication skills to influence senior business partners who are not data specialists — and the patience to bring them along.
- Ability to motivate and retain strong technical talent in a matrix structure where not everyone reports directly to you.
- Solid understanding of data governance, data modelling, and data quality — and an instinct for when these matters most.
- Comfort operating at the intersection of technology and business strategy, translating fluently between both worlds.
It would also be nice to have
- Experience in retail, wholesale, or e-commerce — particularly the commercial and consumer-facing dimensions of these businesses.
- Familiarity with modern data platform architectures (lakehouse, cloud-native stacks, or similar).
- Experience building or scaling an embedded data function within a business unit — you know what it takes to be credible as both a central function and a local partner.
- Exposure to responsible AI practices or ML governance in an enterprise setting.
