Role Overview

This dual-role position is essential in maintaining high standards of hygiene across the nursery and supporting the Chef with meal service. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment for children and staff while also performing kitchen duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all nursery areas, including playrooms, bathrooms, staff rooms, and communal spaces, are cleaned to the highest standard.
  • Carry out daily cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and sanitising surfaces.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch areas and equipment in line with nursery policies.
  • Manage laundry duties, including washing and drying nursery towels, cleaning cloths and stocking them.
  • Ensure that all toilets are regularly cleaned, well-stocked with essential supplies (toilet paper, soap, paper towels), and maintained throughout the day.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and notify management when stock replenishment is needed.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a hygienic and safe environment for children and staff.
  • Kitchen Assistance Duties:
  • Support the Chef during meal service by assisting with food preparation and delivering meals to the rooms.
  • Wash and sanitise kitchenware, including dishes, utensils, and food preparation areas.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Assist with keeping the kitchen clean, organised, and compliant with nursery policies.
  • Support the safe storage of food and kitchen supplies.

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high standards of cleanliness.
  • Good time management skills to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Previous experience in a cleaning role would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with cleaning products and equipment is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and parents.
  • Previous experience in a cleaning, housekeeping, or kitchen assistant role (preferred).
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety regulations (or willingness to undertake training).
