As a Library Assistant Trainee, you will support the day-to-day delivery of our library and document delivery services, helping to provide an excellent experience for solicitors, law firm staff, members, colleagues and the public. You will assist users with legal research enquiries, help them access our collections and online resources, and contribute to the efficient running of one of the UK's leading legal libraries.

The role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a broad range of library activities, including providing support at the enquiry desk, processing document delivery requests, assisting users in person, by telephone and email, maintaining library collections, processing new books and journals, and supporting catalogue and stock management activities.

You will also help create a welcoming library environment, contribute to exhibitions and displays, support library tours and engagement activities, maintain service records and statistics, and assist with projects that promote and develop the library and archives service.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a genuine interest in libraries, information services and legal research, who is committed to pursuing a postgraduate qualification in library or information management. You will be customer-focused, approachable and enthusiastic about helping people find and use information effectively.

You’ll have strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage a varied workload. You’ll enjoy working as part of a team, while also being confident taking responsibility for tasks independently.

Most importantly, you’ll be keen to develop your knowledge and experience in a professional library setting, providing a high-quality service to users while contributing to the ongoing success and promotion of the library and archives service.

What's in it for you

  • We offer a generous flexible benefits package and excellent professional development opportunities in a progressive membership organisation with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise.

We’re committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of dignity and respect.

The successful candidate will be based in our magnificent London library.

Training will be provided across all aspects of the work of the Library Service.

Please note that this role is fully office-based, with a requirement to work in the office five days a week.

Please note: if you are an internal applicant, the pay policy will apply.

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect and promote solicitors.
