Summary of Responsibilities
- Perform routine, scheduled, reactive, and preventative inspection and maintenance of HV/LV equipment (up to 132kV), including switchgear, ring main units, transformers, circuit breakers, busbars, CT metering, protection, and associated control systems.
- Plan, execute, and oversee HV switching schedules to achieve safety from the system in compliance with company safety rules.
- Manage fault location, diagnostics, repair, and response activities.
- Produce remedial works quotations, compile work packages, job instructions, and RAMS.
- Coordinate technicians, supervise and mentor junior staff, conduct competency assessments, and support team development.
- Manage individual project resource allocation.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and other parties to ensure project objectives and deliverables are met.
- Plan and execute HV switching, isolation, and earthing up to 132kV.
- Ensure safety from the system by issuing safety documentation in accordance with procedures.
- Test installations and systems, analyse data, and compile reports.
- Ensure projects meet safety regulations and company QMS standards.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Distribution preferred) or equivalent.
- Additional certifications such as HV Senior Authorised Person (HVSAP), HV Switching Operations, or HV Safety Rules are desirable.
- Current or recent SAP authorisation with experience operating and maintaining high voltage systems (33kV-132kV preferred).
- Strong technical expertise in HV systems, equipment, and protection devices.
- Ability to troubleshoot faults and implement corrective actions.
- Experience with electrical testing (IR, continuity, pressure, VLF, ductor), fault detection, and outage planning.
- GWO certifications for onshore wind are advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety regulations and best practices.
- Leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage teams and priorities.
- Emergency First Aid certification advantageous.
- CSCS/ECS certification advantageous.
