I am delighted to be working with a growing Independent Connections Provider (ICP) that is looking to add an Electrical Estimator to their team. The business specialises in delivering expert grid connection solutions across the UK, working on projects ranging from connections up to 132kV through to National Grid projects at 275kV and 400kV. It's an exciting time to join, with a strong pipeline of work and ambitious growth plans. What really sets them apart is their culture. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for HV/LV electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documents to understand scope.
  • Price all labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and specialist services.
  • Support the development of Bills of Quantities, take-offs and cost breakdowns.
  • Ensure estimates comply with NERS, DNO/IDNO specifications and industry standards.
  • Prepare clear and professional tender submissions for clients.

Technical and Commercial Assessment

  • Evaluate risks, assumptions and technical constraints within each project.
  • Recommend value-engineering options where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities for alternative designs or delivery methods to improve cost-efficiency.
  • Assess project timescales, resourcing requirements and delivery implications.

Collaboration and Project Handover

  • Work with design teams to ensure estimates align with final technical proposals.
  • Attend internal review meetings to support accurate planning and delivery.
  • Support handovers to project managers once tenders are secured.
  • Provide ongoing commercial input during early project stages if required.

Cost Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain pricing databases and update cost models based on real-world project performance.
  • Track market rates for materials, labour and plant.
  • Contribute to improvements in estimating tools, templates and processes.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience as an Estimator in electrical utilities, ICP, power distribution or similar.
  • Strong technical understanding of LV - 33kV systems, cable installation and substation works.
  • Familiarity with DNO/IDNO specifications and contestable works requirements.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong commercial awareness and numerical accuracy.
  • Experience preparing detailed cost estimates for construction or utility projects.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including estimating software, Excel and relevant industry tools.

Desirable

  • Experience within an Independent Connection Provider (ICP) environment.
  • Understanding of civil engineering elements associated with electrical work.
  • Experience with private wire networks, grid connections or renewable energy projects.
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline.
