The Role
As a German Video Games Translator (Japanese to German), you will translate, localise and proofread a wide variety of gaming and digital content for German-speaking audiences. You'll work closely with localisation specialists, editors and project managers to ensure every translation is accurate, culturally appropriate and engaging. This role offers the flexibility of remote working or a hybrid office-based position in London.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate and localise video game content from Japanese into German
- Proofread and edit translations to ensure linguistic accuracy and consistency
- Localise dialogue, UI, menus, tutorials, websites, mobile apps, marketing content and product packaging
- Adapt content for German-speaking markets while preserving tone, humour and cultural relevance
- Collaborate with localisation managers, editors and project coordinators
- Maintain translation memories, terminology databases and glossaries
- Use CAT tools, including MemoQ, to deliver high-quality translations
- Meet project deadlines across multiple localisation projects
- Ensure brand voice and localisation standards are maintained across all content
About You
We're looking for an experienced Gaming Translator or Localisation Specialist with a genuine passion for video games.
Essential Requirements
- Native-level German speaker
- Fluent Japanese (spoken and written)
- Proven experience translating video games from Japanese into German
- Previous experience in game localisation or gaming translation
- Excellent written German with exceptional grammar and attention to detail
- Strong understanding of German culture and localisation best practices
- Experience using CAT tools, particularly MemoQ
- Knowledge of translation memories, terminology management and localisation workflows
- Able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
