The Company: Our client is a leading international consumer-focused eCommerce organisation with a growing portfolio of digital marketplaces across Europe. As part of its continued international expansion, the organisation is looking for a German speaking Business Development Manager to drive the recruitment and onboarding of high-quality German merchants, brands, aggregators, and strategic partners onto its European marketplace platforms.
This is a highly commercial, growth-focused role for an experienced Business Development professional with a strong sales mindset, excellent relationship-building skills, and a proven ability to manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through to contract negotiation and onboarding.
The Role: As Business Development Manager for Germany, you will take ownership of the German merchant recruitment strategy. You will identify and engage potential merchants, build a high-quality prospect pipeline, develop strategic partnerships, and convert opportunities into signed commercial agreements. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across multiple European markets, developing recruitment strategies and presenting recommendations to local marketplace and banner leadership teams before taking ownership of execution. The successful candidate will combine sales expertise, commercial judgement, analytical capability and strong German market knowledge to accelerate merchant acquisition and marketplace growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a clear strategy for recruiting German merchants and brands onto the organisation's European marketplace platforms.
- Identify high-quality prospects across relevant product categories and build a strong German merchant pipeline.
- Generate new business through both inbound and outbound lead-generation activities.
- Conduct cold outreach, qualification calls, presentations and commercial negotiations.
- Own the end-to-end sales funnel, from initial prospecting and lead nurturing through to contract signature and onboarding.
- Develop compelling commercial propositions tailored to the needs of German merchants.
- Maintain accurate pipeline tracking and provide regular reporting on performance, opportunities and risks.
- Identify and develop relationships with organisations that can provide access to German merchants and brands.
- Build strategic partnerships with agencies, technology providers, aggregators and industry organisations within the German market.
- Build a strong network within the German e-commerce and marketplace ecosystem.
- Work collaboratively with marketplace, commercial, digital, operations and leadership teams across multiple European markets.
- Present merchant recruitment strategies, pipeline opportunities and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Build strong internal and external relationships across different countries and functions.
- Represent the organisation at relevant industry events, trade shows and strategic meetings.
Candidate skills, profile and experiences:
- Fluency in German and English. Additional European language skills, particularly French, Spanish or Polish, would be advantageous.
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Sales, Digital Commerce, Sales Operations or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Several years experience in Business Development, Sales, Account Management or Marketplace environments.
- A demonstrable track record of achieving or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
- Experience working with German based brands, retailers, merchants or businesses.
- Experience managing the full sales cycle, including prospecting, cold outreach, qualification, nurturing, negotiation and contract closure.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify high-value business opportunities.
- Excellent pipeline management and sales forecasting skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working with international and cross-functional teams.
- The confidence to engage with businesses at different levels, from operational contacts to senior decision-makers.
- Strong presentation, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial approach and a strong appetite for new business development.
Salary and benefits: £60,000 - £90,000 + benefits
