We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established construction and property services contractor delivering projects across the South of England. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to join a growing business with a strong pipeline of secured work across construction, refurbishment, public sector, education, healthcare, commercial, and facilities projects.

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple projects from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring profitability, risk management, and successful project delivery.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the financial and commercial management of construction and refurbishment projects, working closely with operational teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. You will have the opportunity to influence project performance, manage commercial risk, and support the development of junior commercial staff within the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of multiple construction and refurbishment projects
  • Produce procurement schedules and manage subcontractor procurement activities
  • Prepare and issue tender enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers
  • Negotiate and place subcontract and supplier orders
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Maintain accurate records of variations, design changes, and site instructions
  • Price and agree variations with clients and stakeholders
  • Attend client meetings and provide commercial updates on project performance
  • Administer JCT and NEC contracts, including extensions of time and payment mechanisms
  • Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
  • Produce monthly CVRs, cashflow forecasts, and financial reports
  • Support pre-construction activities and bid submissions when required
  • Mentor Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Graduate Quantity Surveyors, and Degree Apprentices

Senior Quantity Surveyor Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' post-qualification experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
  • Strong background delivering profitable construction and refurbishment projects
  • Experience within commercial, education, healthcare, public sector, and non-residential construction projects
  • Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
  • Proven experience managing valuations, variations, procurement, and final accounts
  • Excellent commercial awareness and risk management skills
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and commercial management software

Qualifications

  • HNC, HND, or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
  • Professional membership or progression towards chartership is advantageous
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
