We’re in a pivotal growth phase, but we’re more than just a tech company — our vision is to make sustainable land management the global norm. What’s the real world challenge we’re trying to solve? From climate change to deforestation to sustainable food production, many of the major challenges facing our generation revolve around how land is used and managed. Where does Land App come in? Land App was founded to tackle these issues. Bringing together data, advice and incentives in a cloud-based platform, Land App empowers people with tools to map their land, apply for funding opportunities and connect to a sector-wide network of support, helping them make informed decisions for sustainable land use.
About the role
Our Operations & Automations Exec keeps Land App’s internal ops slick and helps prepare us for scale. Working autonomously, you’ll manage our internal business processes. At first things may be manual, but not for long! This is a high-potential role for a systems-minded self-starter. We want you to leverage the knowledge you build as our ops expert to find ways to automate our workflows, reduce manual work, and drive scalability. In time, we see the right person growing to Operations Manager!
A flavour of what’s ahead:
- Phase 1: Learning the ropes. You’ll start as our internal expert in all things process and admin. You’ll be "rolling up your sleeves" to deeply understand how our business functions, spot bottlenecks, and identify where we can automate.
- Phase 2: Automation & Iteration. Once you’ve got a sense of how things work around here, it’s time to take initiative. You’ll leverage tools (AI, system integrations, and APIs) to connect systems and reduce our reliance on manual work. With increased capacity comes more room to grow!
You’ll be responsible for:
- Business & Finance Ops: Leading on the collection of overdue payments and managing customer billing. You'll also assist the COO with budget management and act as the go-to for the wider team’s finance questions.
- Procurement & Contracts: Supporting the review of vendor/client procurement paperwork and contract deliverables with a sharp eye for detail and compliance.
- Strategic Ops: Partnering with our Project Manager on company goal (OKR) documentation and tracking to ensure everything stays accurate and aligned.
People & Culture Ops:
- People Ops: Supporting our People Lead with essential admin, including benefits, HR systems, and the full onboarding and offboarding process.
- Internal & External Events: Organising and hosting everything from Town Halls and team get-togethers to industry trade shows. You’ll own all important logistics from venues and accommodation to meals and merchandise.
Systems, IT & Compliance:
- Internal Tools: Acting as the admin expert for our internal tools (Notion, G-Suite, Slack, and HubSpot). You’ll evaluate whether our tools speed us up or slow us down, and proactively educate the team on how to use them effectively.
- IT Ops: Being a key contact for our IT support, coordinating IT assets (laptops/hardware), and handling the setup/retrieval processes for joiners and leavers.
- Policy & Compliance: Maintaining and updating company policies and administering compliance training (e.g., cyber security and data protection). You'll support our existing certifications (BCorp, Cyber Essentials) while leading the charge on new applications.
About you
We want to hear from you if:
- You’re a curious self-starter: You have experience working in business operations or similar. You are curious, take responsibility and drive progress without prompting.
- You embrace the start-up balance: You aren’t phased by the thought of "rolling up your sleeves", owning necessary admin tasks as the essential first step toward a more systematic and slick future as we grow as a business.
- You’re technically skilled and systems minded: You’re skilled in a range of technical processes and are up for the challenge to help us move from messy manual processes to slick automation and integration.
- You’re a proactive problem solver: You proactively identify, prioritise and resolve problems, learning from past experience. You use your initiative to research existing guidelines first.
- You have great coordination & communication skills: You clearly and openly coordinate and explain information on varied tasks, and proactively offer to help others who are stuck.
Bonus points if you:
- Can provide examples of how you’ve automated or improved manual processes via automation, AI etc. to be more efficient, slick or scalable.
- Are familiar with Notion, G-Suite, Slack, HubSpot tools.
- Have experience maintaining goal-setting tools (e.g., OKR tracking).
It’s probably not the right fit if you:
- Prefer things to be structured/corporate or already organised. Part of your role will be figuring things out - tasks won’t always be defined in advance.
- Don’t want to do manual admin to begin with: The first phase will be "hands-on" getting to grips with our current reality (including manual admin and cleaning data) before you can move into strategic systems integration.
- Aren’t comfortable with a broad, cross-functional role. You’ll be connecting with every part of the business from strategic and people to finance and commercial!
Important note: This role is open for those eligible to live and work in the UK. We are unable to sponsor visas for this position.
Break through the self-doubt! Research tells us that women, ethnic minorities, and people from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet 100% of the criteria. None of us are the finished article, we’re imperfect humans after all. If you’ve read this far and have experience (work or personally) you could bring, we’d love to hear from you.
The hiring process: We’re firm believers that a hiring process is a two-way street. It’s just as important that you are confident in the role and company fit as we are:
- Initial screening call (15 mins): To check it’s a match on both sides, before progressing to interview stage.
- Hiring manager interview (45-60 mins): For us to hear your experience and how it links to the key role responsibilities. For you to understand more about the role, team and Land App more broadly.
- Role specific scenario/task (60 mins): For us to see you in action, and learn about how you apply your skills practically. For you to gain insight into what a typical day at Land App may include.
Tell us what you need! We want you to feel at your best. Let us know if there are any adjustments or adaptations we can make during the hiring process to support your application (e.g. any medical conditions or any individual needs).
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging: At Land App, we’re committed to fostering a work environment where people can flourish no matter their background, identity, culture, or experiences. We welcome applications from people of all walks of life, no matter your age, ethnicity, religion, citizenship, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, caring responsibilities, neurodiversity, or otherwise.
