The Labour Desk is recruiting experienced Groundworks Operatives on behalf of an established groundworks and construction contractor delivering projects across the education, commercial, residential and private sectors.

This is an opportunity for skilled, reliable operatives to join a growing team with excellent equipment, varied projects and genuine opportunities to progress.

You will need strong technical knowledge, a professional approach and the ability to take ownership of your work while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy and workmanship.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Carrying out excavation, drainage, foundations, concrete works, reinforcement, brickwork and blockwork, beam and block installation, reinstatement and surfacing.
  • Operating excavators and other site machinery safely and competently.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, reinforcement schedules, setting-out plans and technical information.
  • Assisting with setting out and ensuring work meets the required specifications.
  • Working to programme targets and maintaining productivity under pressure.
  • Working closely with site supervisors, project managers, clients and fellow operatives.
  • Following all health and safety procedures and maintaining a safe, organised working environment.
  • Delivering high-quality finishes and representing the contractor professionally on every project.

We are looking for applicants with

  • A minimum of 10 years’ hands-on groundworks experience.
  • Strong practical skills across all aspects of groundworks.
  • Confidence reading drawings and technical information.
  • A high standard of competence in excavator and other plant operation.
  • A sound understanding of site safety, sequencing and construction methods.
  • A methodical approach, with the ability to plan ahead and solve problems.
  • A calm, dependable attitude under pressure.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Professional standards of presentation and behaviour.
  • References demonstrating relevant experience and capability.

  • NRSWA Street Works certification
  • Temporary Works Awareness training
  • First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work

  • CPCS or NPORS (CSCS-linked) Dumper ticket
