Company: Rent In Kent (Part of The Kushman Group)

Location: Maidstone, ME14 1LH (Mobile role covering Kent & SE London)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Up to £36,000 per year (£3,000 per month) + Mileage Allowance

A Unique Opportunity at Rent In Kent: Are you a skilled multi-trade builder or handyman who takes pride in high-quality workmanship? Do you want a stable, secure, and permanent monthly income without the hassle of constantly chasing leads, quoting, and managing invoices? Rent In Kent is a fast-growing, family-owned portfolio landlord and HMO specialist based in Maidstone. We aren't a traditional, slow-moving letting agency—we own, develop, and manage our entire asset portfolio. We are on a "hyper-growth" mission to become the number one private landlord in the South East, and our customer‑centric approach is at the core of our business.

Your New Role: This is a dynamic position focused heavily on your practical building and trade expertise. You won’t just be doing basic patch jobs; you will be responsible for keeping our HMOs and residential properties structurally sound, beautifully finished, and fully compliant, while acting as a professional representative on‑site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building, Fabric & Property Maintenance (Approx. 85% of the role):
    • Multi-Trade Repairs: Carry out reactive and planned maintenance across our portfolio in Kent (Maidstone, Ashford, Ramsgate, etc.) and SE London.
    • Carpentry & Joinery: Hanging and trimming doors, fitting heavy‑duty locks, replacing thumb‑turns, repairing kitchen cabinetry, and installing skirting boards.
    • Plumbing & Snagging: Diagnosing and fixing leaks, replacing taps, unblocking wastes, resealing bathrooms/showers, and replacing basic plumbing fixtures.
    • Finishing & Decorating: Full room turnarounds between tenancies including patch plastering, rendering, high‑quality painting, tiling, and silicone application.
    • Structural Troubleshooting: Investigating damp, tracking down hidden leaks, and implementing creative, long‑lasting structural solutions rather than quick cosmetic fixes.
  • Property Inspections & Team Coordination (Approx. 15% of the role):
    • Turnover & Inspections: Conduct thorough property fabric inspections during tenant turnarounds, assess wear‑and‑tear, and report back on required maintenance work.
    • Tenant Relations: Act as our primary on‑site representative. Address maintenance queries face‑to‑face with a professional, empathetic, and problem‑solving attitude.
    • Team Synergy: Use communication tools to coordinate daily with company Directors and our offshore administrative support team to log jobs, track progress, and manage stock/materials.

About You (Our Ideal Candidate):

  • Multi‑Skilled Trade Background: You have a proven track record as a builder, site handyman, or multi‑trade operator. You are confident handling wood, water, plaster, and paint.
  • An Elite Problem‑Solver: You don't just spot a leak or crack and walk away. You think independently to find efficient, clever, and robust structural or mechanical solutions.
  • Fully Equipped: You must possess your own reliable commercial van/suitable work vehicle and a comprehensive set of professional hand and power tools (drills, saws, plumbing tools, etc.).
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: You genuinely enjoy interacting with people. You can build easy rapport with tenants, keeping them calm and informed during repair call‑outs.
  • Tech‑Savvy & Organized: You are comfortable using smartphone apps (like WhatsApp, email, and property software) to upload photo updates of your work and coordinate schedules.
  • Full UK Driving Licence: Must hold a clean, valid UK driving licence and be happy covering regional travel across Kent.

What We Offer:

  • Guaranteed Income Stability: A predictable, steady salary of £3,000 per month (£36,000/yr), completely removing the financial ups and downs of solo trade work.
  • Business Mileage Paid: We fully compensate you for your business travel expenses via a mileage allowance.
  • Diverse Work Environment: A non‑repetitive role where you manage your own daily workflow across a varied portfolio of HMOs, residential spaces, and holiday lets.
  • Direct Progression Opportunities: As a key early hire in a hyper‑growth company, there is a clear avenue to progress into a Head of Maintenance or Estates Manager role as we build out our in‑house trade teams.
  • A Supportive Culture: Work directly with the business owners who respect your expertise, value your input, and treat you as an essential partner in the company's growth.

If you are a reliable, hands‑on trade professional looking to step away from the stress of site work and into a secure, long‑term career with a premium property group, apply today!
