Shift: Rotating Days (6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm)

Role Summary

First Line Manager responsible for leading the production teams on a shift and daily basis. Delivery of production plan and OEE performance for the area of control whilst maintaining and improving standards and policies, manage within established company guidelines and precedents. Safety, Quality, People, Production, people within the specified production/technology area on a shift basis. Primarily delivery of the shift results however also required to take an active role in the longer-term improvement activity and plans for the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates problem solving sessions with operators and engineers to understand and root cause and eradicate problem from occurring again.
  • Ensure compliance with KHMS principles CIL, defect tagging, etc.
  • Leader standard work with focus on activity that grows/improves the business.
  • Actively engages with the team of the shop floor on an hour-by-hour basis.
  • Focus efforts on eradicating tasks that do not add value to the business.
  • Safe working environment delivering good quality products to agreed production plans whilst ensuring labour and yield controls are in place and being adhered to.
  • Leading the teams through regular performance reviews using HGPS principles of short interval control and multi-disciplined teams. Generation of actions as an output of this process which will deliver improved performance before the next review point.
  • Ensuring repeat or problems which cannot be resolved in a timely manner, are escalated to the appropriate levels and managed in an organised and systematic manner.
  • Using appropriate problem-solving tools where required to address reoccurring issues.
  • Management and direction of shift engineering resources to aid this process.
  • Proactive approach to improving safety and GMP standards within the area of responsibility, communicating with external resources where required to ensure cleaning standards are improved where possible.
  • Carrying out all necessary company communications to required standards and ensuring all sign off and compliance is taking place.
  • Engagement of teams to actively seek out performance and costs improvement opportunities wherever possible. Be able to demonstrate personal involvement and contribution in these initiatives.
  • Ensure focus on safety initiatives is evident with approach to deliver zero lost time or minor accidents evident.
  • In the event of any issues taking place on the shift, demonstrating the ability to manage and contain these events to minimise the impact on the business.
  • Ensure that all productions activities (start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers) are planned out with potential risks identified and managed accordingly.
  • Maintaining of discipline standards and application of company procedures across the area of responsibility.
  • Clear communication through other areas of the production team in order to coordinate activity appropriately.
  • Review personal performance with line manager and can demonstrate with evidence your personal contribution to the areas results.
  • Development of the team to ensure that succession planning is in place and the ability to maintain a flexible trained team with little or no reliance on bought in key skills in order to operate the shift.
  • Involvement in focused improvement projects or capital projects.
  • Review and adjust the production plans as appropriate in order to meet all business demands as and when activity dictates.
  • Active engagement in the area steering and review process in order to add an individual contribution to the team's success.
  • Work with the PQL role to implement and roll out agreed improvement plans.
  • Ensuring effective shop floor-based handovers are taking place to aid continuity across shift changes.

Expected Experience and Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience of operating in a fast-moving production environment.
  • Basic engineering understanding.
  • Experience of delivering sustainable improvement plans which have contributed to business success.
  • Strong leadership competencies required with the ability to demonstrate a systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to lead others and identify specific business improvement opportunities.
  • Be able to communicate effectively at all levels and ensure communications are clear and understood, be able to engage and motivate teams and union partners when adapting and adopting change programmes.
