The function of SMS’s Tech Group is to create technical solutions in line with the strategy of the business. To deliver sensing capability, data transmission and visualisation platforms that are at the forefront of the Energy and Marine Transformation. The role of the R&D engineer is to ensure that the project runs from conceptual design through to commissioning efficiently through all phases of the project cycle; planning, build up, implementation and close out. Interpreting clients’ requirements, engineering problems and implementing solutions are key components of this role. These are to be completed in accordance with ISO9001:2015 Design & Development specification.

Main Activities/Responsibilities:

  • Development of Global Finite Element Model
  • Data Collection and Determination of Fatigue Damage Based on SN Curve and Mode Shape Approaches
  • Implementation / Development of Peridynamic Fatigue Damage Model
  • Integration of Peridynamic, SN Curve, and Mode Shape Approaches to Overall Digital Twin Framework
  • Manage your own project(s), clearly communicate and report on it
  • Writing detailed technical reports based on design verification and testing for product development activities.
  • To finalise development, validate, and deploy an advanced digital twin based hull monitoring system for offshore structures, integrating peridynamics modelling with real‑time sensor data, for remote assessment of local stress points without physical sensors, improving structural safety, reducing maintenance costs, and advancing predictive integrity management for floating offshore assets.
