The Knowledge Transfer Network Limited

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an innovative Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between Norbrook Laboratories Ltd and Queen’s University Belfast.

The project aims to develop a scientifically robust, data-driven framework for scaling up liquid veterinary medicines, enabling reliable technology transfer, improved manufacturing robustness and accelerated product development.

We are seeking a dynamic graduate with expertise in Pharmaceutical, Chemical or Process Engineering who can apply engineering principles, data modelling techniques and pharmaceutical manufacturing knowledge to deliver a strategically important innovation project.

Working closely with academic experts from the School of Pharmacy at Queen’s and industrial specialists at Norbrook, you will gain experience of leading a complex R&D project while developing technical, project management and leadership skills.

One of the key benefits of the KTP programme is access to a £4,000 training and development budget over the 24-month project, alongside dedicated academic and industry support and participation in national KTP management training programmes.

Key Criteria

  • Hold a Masters-level qualification in Pharmaceutical, Chemical or Process Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (MEng or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of chemical engineering principles including mixing, fluid flow, hydrodynamics and scale-up methodology.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of data modelling techniques, including statistical and hybrid approaches for analysing manufacturing datasets.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and unit operations, including characterisation.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
  • High level of IT competency.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently and collaboratively.

The above criteria are not exhaustive. Candidates should refer to the Candidate Information Booklet for the full list of essential and desirable criteria before applying.

This project will develop a scientifically robust framework to support the scale-up of liquid veterinary medicines from laboratory development through to commercial manufacturing. By establishing predictive relationships between process parameters and product quality across scales, the project will support more reliable technology transfer, improved manufacturing performance and enhanced product quality.

Employed by Queen’s University Belfast and supported by a team of academic experts, you will be based at Norbrook Laboratories in Newry, Co. Down.

As a KTP Associate, you will lead on the delivery of the following key project stages:

Stage 1: Pharmaceutical Formulation Development and Laboratory Process Understanding.
