This full-time post is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate role available immediately for 24 months. The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Exeter and will spend the majority of their time working at Smiths Detection’s premises in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. There may be a requirement to travel to the University or other locations within the UK or internationally, based on project needs.
Purpose of the Role
To work in collaboration with Industry and Academic Supervisors to successfully deliver the following KTP Project:
- Develop and embed the capability to deliver high-quality, best-in-class training models for a global customer-base in safety-critical environments.
- Create a scalable, premium service offering that drives aftermarket revenue, strengthens customer relationships, and differentiates the business through pedagogically led training; an innovative approach in a technically focused, compliance-driven sector.
- To actively contribute to the University of Exeter’s research activity through applying latest pedagogical and curricular thinking to industrial challenges.
- To transfer the latest academic thinking in instructional design, content creation, learning and teaching, assessment, and quality assurance relevant to the project into the company partner.
This project aims to develop and embed specialised, high-quality training as a core commercial offering, giving Smiths Detection a distinct competitive advantage in a highly regulated, often uniform industry. The project will enable the company to offer new commercial services in training, enhancing its workforce capabilities around the world, and improving operational efficiency.
The KTP associate will develop and embed within Smiths Detection:

- Culturally adaptive delivery models to reflect cultural impacts on learning across the world.
