The King's School in Macclesfield is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly skilled Visiting Music Teacher (Singing) to join its thriving Music Department from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the North West's leading independent schools, supporting pupils of all ages and abilities while contributing to an outstanding co-curricular music programme.

Working under the direction of the Director of Music, you will deliver engaging one-to-one singing tuition, inspire pupils to achieve their musical potential, and encourage participation in the school's extensive programme of concerts, ensembles and performances.

The Role:

  • Teach singing lessons to pupils ranging from complete beginners through to Grade 8 standard, helping them develop technical ability, musicianship and confidence in performance.
  • Deliver engaging, structured and inspiring singing lessons for pupils of all ages and abilities.
  • Plan lessons that develop vocal technique, aural skills, musicianship and music theory knowledge.
  • Teach primarily on a one-to-one basis, with occasional small group or ensemble sessions.
  • Prepare pupils for ABRSM and Trinity examinations where appropriate.
  • Set ambitious targets and regularly assess pupil progress, including writing formal reports.
  • Encourage and support pupils to participate in school concerts, choirs, ensembles and other musical events.
  • Demonstrate excellent performance skills, including confident sight-reading.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit the individual strengths and needs of every student.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and organise weekly teaching timetables.
  • Liaise effectively with staff regarding lesson schedules and pupil progress.
  • Communicate positively with parents regarding pupil development and achievement.

About You:

  • Holds appropriate performance qualifications in singing.
  • Has experience teaching pupils across a wide range of ages and abilities.
  • Demonstrates excellent vocal performance and sight-reading skills.
  • Has experience preparing students for music examinations.
  • Can adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
  • Is organised, reliable and able to manage their own timetable effectively.
  • Works collaboratively while also showing initiative and independence.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands and values equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Further teaching qualifications or CPD in instrumental/vocal pedagogy and music theory qualifications would be advantageous.
