The King's School in Macclesfield is a thriving co-educational day school, educating pupils from Pre-School to Sixth Form (ages 3-18). There are around 1,320 pupils and around 250 staff, making King's one of the largest HMC schools in the country.
We're currently looking for an experienced Library Assistant who can take an active role in supporting staff and pupils in their use of the Senior School Library.
About the role:
- To assist pupils and staff to make effective use of the Library by advising them on the selection and use of resources.
- Supervise correct use of the Library including supervising large numbers of pupils at break, lunchtime and after school. This will include managing discipline.
- Connect and build positive relationships with pupils of all ages.
- To assist in the maintenance of a safe and stimulating library environment ensuring the Library maintains a professional and welcoming appearance, including creating and updating displays (online and notice boards).
- To help organise activities to promote reading and encourage Library use.
- To undertake Library administration via AccessIT (the automated library management system) to maintain pupil borrower records and other statistical records.
- Input towards organisational processes including redesigning and streamlining admin tasks.
- Support school events, help with book clubs and other school-led clubs.
- Assist in choosing relevant books for 'pick of the week' and supporting reading materials.
- To assist in the day-to-day oversight of Library IT equipment (computer use and printers), designing posters, and liaising as necessary with School's IT Support to ensure effective operation of systems.
- To assist with the maintenance of the Library stock to include processing new material and weeding old stock.
- Organise and undertake filing and shelf tidying, restocking books and keeping things tidy.
- To be aware of and act upon relevant school policies and in particular those associated with Child Protection/Safeguarding Children and Health and Safety issues.
About you:
- Keen interest in current children's and young adult fiction.
- Willingness to regularly supervise and advise pupils both individually and in a group setting.
- Excellent communication skills with both staff and students.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Good knowledge of administrative ICT or eagerness to learn.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- 5+ GCSE A* - C (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
- 2+ A Levels or equivalent.
