The King's School in Macclesfield is seeking to appoint a dedicated and high-caliber Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our Junior Division for the 2026/27 academic year. This is a unique opportunity to work specifically with our Year 6 cohort, supporting pupils during a vital transitional year in their educational journey.
The Role:
Working under the direction of the Vice-Principal of the Junior Division, the successful candidate will provide advanced pedagogical support. This role goes beyond standard classroom assistance, requiring the ability to lead small groups and occasionally manage whole classes to ensure continuity of learning.
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm (Term time only).
Duration: Temporary for one year, starting September 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level support for the teaching of Year 6 pupils, focusing on core subjects and transition preparation.
- Lead small group interventions and specialized learning activities independently.
- Cover classes during the short-term absence of teachers, maintaining the delivery of the planned curriculum.
- Assist in the assessment of pupil progress and the maintenance of accurate records.
- Support the pastoral care of Year 6 pupils, ensuring their wellbeing and confidence.
- Participate in school trips, assemblies, and the wider life of the Junior Division.
- Adhere strictly to all safeguarding and health and safety policies.
About You:
We are looking for a professional and motivated individual who:
- Holds an HLTA qualification or possesses equivalent significant experience in a primary setting.
- Has a proven track record of supporting Upper Key Stage 2 pupils, particularly in Year 6.
- Demonstrates the confidence and skill to lead a classroom and manage behaviour effectively.
- Possesses excellent literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
- Is a collaborative team player with a proactive 'can-do' attitude.
