To lead the day‑to‑day management, maintenance, security and compliance of the academy sites, ensuring a safe, secure and well‑maintained environment that supports teaching, learning and wider academy activities. The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing site operations, line managing site and cleaning staff, coordinating maintenance and contractor activities, and ensuring compliance with health and safety, statutory and Trust requirements.

Service Delivery

  • Maintain a safe, clean and secure environment for pupils, staff, visitors and contractors.
  • Act as the main keyholder and coordinate site opening, closing and emergency access arrangements.
  • Oversee the safety and security of the site.
  • Monitor building systems including heating, lighting, alarms and security systems.
  • Manage cleaning operations to ensure academy facilities are maintained to a high standard.
  • Support academy lettings, events and community use of facilities as required.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, inspections and compliance activities.
  • Support the smooth running of day‑to‑day academy operations through effective site management.
  • Manage porterage activities including deliveries, furniture moves, room setups and storage arrangements.

Estates and Facilities Management

  • Coordinate planned preventative maintenance programmes and reactive repairs.
  • Undertake and arrange minor maintenance works within competence and training limits.
  • Obtain quotations and support procurement processes in accordance with Trust financial procedures.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure works are completed safely and to required standards.
  • Assist with capital projects, condition improvement works and premises development initiatives.
  • Oversee grounds maintenance arrangements and ensure outdoor areas remain safe, accessible and well maintained.
  • Coordinate academy arrangements when premises are required for public elections or other civic purposes.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Act as the academy's Health and Safety representative.
  • Conduct and monitor routine health and safety inspections of buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance records relating to fire safety, asbestos management, legionella control, water hygiene and other statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate fire safety procedures including alarm testing, inspections and evacuation arrangements.
  • Ensure risk assessments are completed, reviewed and implemented for relevant site activities.
  • Report health and safety concerns promptly and implement corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture across the academy.
  • Ensure all estates and facilities activities comply with Trust policies, procedures and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, contractor works and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure that the Health and Safety handbook is distributed to and read by all staff, especially new members of staff on induction.
  • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Act as a professional and welcoming point of contact for staff, pupils, parents, contractors and external agencies.
  • Respond to site‑related enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Liaise effectively with contractors, suppliers and Trust colleagues regarding estates matters.
  • Communicate effectively with academy leaders regarding maintenance priorities, compliance matters and operational issues.

Collaboration and Team Working

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the academy and Trust.
  • Support academy operations and events through effective facilities management.
  • Provide support to other team members where required.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive working environment.

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
  • Report concerns promptly in line with academy and Trust expectations.
  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities relevant to the role.

  • Holidays to be taken in school holiday time and in agreement with line manager.
