The Women’s Senior Physiotherapist will play a key role in delivering high-quality physiotherapy services to professional SCCC players. The postholder will be responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, supporting athletes to optimise performance, reduce injury risk and return to play safely. Working within the Science & Medicine team, the Senior Physiotherapist will collaborate closely with coaches, support staff and medical partners to contribute to performance, availability and player wellbeing.
Role Objectives And Responsibilities To Include The Following:
- Advocate for high-quality healthcare provision to best prepare players for elite performance within the first and 2xII team.
- Deliver assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.
- Maximise player availability through effective injury management and evidence-based rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual athletes.
- Contribute to injury prevention strategies in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Provide physiotherapy support to the Women’s Senior team, and academy squads if directed.
- Attend and deliver service provision at training sessions, home and away fixtures, and overseas camps/tours as required. Support acute injury management during these times.
- Manage player injury and illness in collaboration with the Club Medical Officer (CMO) and Head of Science & Medicine, and Lead Physiotherapist.
- Contribute to established governance processes, including medical screening, wellbeing pathways and emergency action planning.
- Maintain high standards of medical record-keeping in line with industry standards and ensure timely entry onto the ECB Injury Management Database.
- Work with the wider MDT to support player performance and associated development goals.
- Communicate non-confidential headline availability and fitness status information with the Director of Cricket, Head Coach and any necessary skills coaches when required.
- Undertake appropriate professional development to keep abreast of world’s best practice and current evidence-based research in cricket.
- Contribute to the Medicine Review/Audit process.
- To work collaboratively with ECB staff to co-manage international players, as required.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following experience / skills / qualities:
Essential:
- BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP)
- Current advanced trauma management and emergency care accreditation (or ability to complete this in the near future if successful)
- Experience working within an elite sport or high-performance environment
- Full Driving License is a mandatory requirement
- High standards of personal and professional integrity
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable:
- Experience in women’s sport
- Knowledge of female athlete health considerations (e.g., RED-S, menstrual cycle awareness, bone health)
- Experience working within professional cricket
