Description

Position Summary

The Janitorial Worker performs cleaning and basic custodial duties to help keep assigned work locations clean, safe, and organized. Responsibilities may include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and other areas, removing trash and recycling, restocking supplies, and completing other assigned cleaning tasks. The Janitorial Worker may work at one or more locations and may be required to travel between sites during the workday. The position follows established cleaning and safety procedures, uses cleaning supplies and equipment properly, and reports any safety or maintenance concerns. The Janitorial Worker receives day-to-day direction from the Site Supervisor, while the Director provides overall oversight of job performance and expectations. The Janitorial Worker works independently or as part of a team and supports The Kennedy Collective’s mission, vision, and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Janitorial & Custodial Duties

  • Perform routine cleaning and custodial duties to maintain assigned work locations in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean floors, furniture, fixtures, and other assigned surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners as needed.
  • Restock paper products, soap, and other supplies in assigned areas.
  • Complete assigned cleaning tasks according to established schedules and expectations.

Cleaning Equipment, Supplies & Safety

  • Use cleaning products, supplies, tools, and equipment safely and according to instructions.
  • Follow established cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Properly store cleaning products, supplies, and equipment after use.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment in good working condition and report equipment problems as needed.
  • Report spills, hazards, maintenance concerns, property damage, or unsafe conditions to the Site Supervisor.

Work Assignments & Site Responsibilities

  • Follow daily assignments and direction provided by the Site Supervisor.
  • Work independently or with other team members to complete assigned duties.
  • Maintain assigned areas and ensure cleaning tasks are completed within expected timeframes.
  • Work at one or more assigned locations and travel between work sites during the workday when required.
  • Respect the property, belongings, and workspaces of others while performing assigned duties.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • No specific education or previous janitorial experience required.
  • Ability to learn and complete assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established cleaning and safety procedures.
  • Ability to use cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment safely.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and coworkers regarding work assignments and needs.
  • Ability to work at assigned locations and travel between work sites when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous cleaning, janitorial, custodial, or related work experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience using basic cleaning supplies and equipment preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning and janitorial practices or the ability to learn them.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn and follow cleaning and safety procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, and move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry cleaning supplies, equipment, and other items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping, and scrubbing.
  • Ability to use cleaning tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to move throughout assigned work locations, including between different areas of a building.
  • Ability to travel between assigned work sites when required.


Working Conditions

  • Works in a variety of indoor work environments based on assigned location.
  • May work around cleaning products, dust, dirt, odors, noise, and other conditions commonly found during cleaning work.
  • May work around employees, visitors, customers, or others at assigned work locations.
  • May be required to work at more than one location and travel between assigned work sites during the workday.
  • Work schedules may vary based on the needs of the assigned location and may include daytime, evening, or weekend hours.
  • Must follow safety procedures and any workplace requirements of the assigned location.

  • Cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment are used safely and properly.

  • Safety concerns, maintenance needs, supply needs, or other problems are reported to the Site Supervisor in a timely manner.

Compensation

  • Compensation for this position is based on experience, qualifications, and applicable organizational compensation practices, where applicable.
  • The salary range for this position will be provided in accordance with applicable federal and state pay transparency requirements.
