About the role
Here at Joseph Rowntree Foundation, we are seeking an Accounting Services Supervisor to be responsible for all month-end, quarterly and year-end processes and ensuring they are completed in a timely manner with accurate transactions on general ledger and cash book. In this role, you will work collaboratively and proactively with the Procure to Pay Team, the JRHT and JRF Embedded Finance Teams, Group Central Services, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, while championing the continuous improvement of procedures and processes. You will take responsibility for approving and processing HSBC priority payments in line with the Bank Mandate, providing Civica Financials administration cover to the Finance Systems Owner, and ensuring all reconciliations are completed, recorded, checked, and appropriately signed off across the cash book, Cx/CF, Creditors Ledger and Debtors Ledger. You will play a key role in meeting month-end and year-end closedown deadlines, authorising non-supplier creditors and general ledger journals, and investigating and resolving queries and anomalies within Accounting Services. The role also involves providing cover for the Senior Accounting Services Analyst on rent and tenancy charge changes and liaising with External Auditors on routine transactional audit requests, providing a bridge between the audit team and colleagues and coordinating the flow of audit requests in the process.
About you
We are seeking a candidate with strong, demonstrable experience of transactional processes within a Finance Department, supported by an AAT qualification, part-qualified CCAB status, or equivalent experience. You will bring proven experience in managing reconciliations, overseeing end-to-end processes, and ensuring all activity is monitored, recorded and checked in line with audit requirements. The successful applicant will be a confident and capable user of intermediate Excel and Microsoft Office applications, with hands-on experience of using financial systems such as Sage, Civica or similar accounting packages. A sound understanding of accounting principles and budget management is essential, particularly in relation to financial coding and user structures across the Group. You will have excellent accuracy and numeracy skills, strong organisational and time-management abilities, and the capacity to oversee a small team to deliver a varied workload to tight and precise deadlines. Exceptional communication skills and a positive, proactive approach to self-development and learning are also key to this role.
