About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Regional Health, Safety & Security Manager to join our Operations team based at Aintree Racecourse – home to The Grand National. This role will provide the overall day to day responsibility for the operational delivery of the security/stewarding/crowd medical provision for racedays and conference & events as well as being the site champion for Health & Safety.

The Regional Health, Safety & Security Manager will:

  • Lead compliance and licensing for all race days and events, ensuring adherence to the Licensing Act 2003, premises licences, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Champion health and safety across the racecourse, ensuring operations are risk-managed in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, industry guidance, and best practice.
  • Act as Safety Officer for race days, overseeing event safety operations, pre- and post-race checks, and ensuring consistent safety standards across regional sites.
  • Manage relationships with key authorities including local councils, police, Safety Advisory Groups, and counter-terrorism teams to ensure safe, compliant event delivery.
  • Lead event safety planning, including emergency, medical, and risk management plans for all race days, conferences, and large-scale events.
  • Oversee security, stewarding, and medical provision, including contractor management, deployment planning, and training programmes for event personnel.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety standards through audits, risk assessments, fire safety reviews, and Health & Safety committee activity across the region.
  • Maintain and update operational and safety documentation, ensuring racecourse operations manuals, policies, and procedures remain compliant and current.
  • Support the implementation of the Group HSE Management System ensuring alignment with Group policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Lead or support accident and incident investigations, ensuring that learning is captured and shared across the region.
  • Monitor and oversee the completion of near misses and hazard reports to ensure actions are implemented and trends are identified.
  • Conduct the bi-annual HSE assurance/compliance audits across the region and ensure actions are tracked through to completion.
  • Support external audits and inspections (e.g. regulators, insurers or other third parties) and ensure any actions are effectively managed.
  • Support the review and quality of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work across regional operations.
  • Promote positive safety leadership and engagement across the racecourses within the region.

About you

  • Knowledge of health and safety planning and implementation.
  • Proven experience of Health and Safety role within a commercial environment.
  • A leading communicator comfortable influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to work with the ability to provide solutions to problems and see them through to fruition.
  • Confident establishing and maintaining a positive and productive working environment with close working relationships.
  • An excellent organiser with great planning skills and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Level 4 NVQ in Spectator Safety qualification.
