Practice Nurse (Bank) in Kendal

Job summary
We are looking to expand our Bank Nursing Team and are seeking an experienced, motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive practice on a flexible, as‑needed basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who enjoys variety and working within a well‑organised primary care setting. Located in Kendal offering excellent access to the Lake District National Park ideal for those seeking outdoor lifestyle balance alongside clinical work.
Main duties of the job
Flexible bank sessions to support service demand, including holiday and sickness cover and seasonal vaccinations. You will be expected to work independently and confidently across a range of core practice nursing duties.
Core Skills Required: Applicants must be experienced and competent in:

• Childhood Immunisations
• Travel health and immunisations
• Routine injections (e.g. B12, depot)
• Cervical smears
• Wound care and dressings
• Seasonal flu/ Covid vaccinations

Rate £23.53 per hour inclusive of holiday allowance, depending on experience and responsibilities.

Job responsibilities
The practice nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas including

• Childhood Immunisations
• Travel health and immunisations
• Routine injections (e.g. B12, depot)
• Cervical smears
• Wound care
• Seasonal vaccinations

They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

Essential

• Experience of working as a practice nurse

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Nurse
• Post graduate diploma or degree (Primary Care)

Clinical knowledge and skills
Essential

• Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
• cervical cytology
• Venepuncture
• Chaperone procedure
• Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly
• Immunisations (routine, childhood and travel)
• Understanding the importance of evidence based practice
• Broad knowledge of clinical governance
• Ability to record accurate clinical notes
• Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs
• Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
• Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
• Understand the requirement for PGDs and associated policy
• Awareness of issues within the wider health arena
• Knowledge of health promotion strategies
