The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, is one of the world’s most prestigious offshore sailing clubs. Founded in 1925 following the first Fastnet Race, the Club was granted Royal status in 1931 and has since played a leading role in organising major international yacht races and developing offshore sailing standards.

Instead of just working in a kitchen, this role offers the chance to be part of a fast‑paced hospitality environment supporting the delivery of high‑quality dining experiences for members and guests. The successful candidate will get hands‑on experience across a range of kitchen duties, working alongside experienced chefs while developing essential culinary skills, food preparation techniques, and knowledge of kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Assisting with the preparation of fresh ingredients for both daily lunch menu and event catering, including vegetables, meats and fish.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient workstation, adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
  • Learning and executing basic cooking techniques under the guidance of senior chefs.
  • Assisting with the plating and presentation of dishes for both individual service and larger events.
  • Helping with the setup and breakdown of catering for events.
  • Receiving and storing deliveries for food and supplies, ensuring proper stock rotation.
  • Contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment within the kitchen.
Essential Requirements
  • Passion for food and a willingness to learn and develop culinary skills; prior kitchen experience desirable but not essential.
  • A strong work ethic, reliability and flexibility with working hours.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
  • The ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure, especially during busy event periods.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to the success of our catering operations.
