About:

The Island Trust is a registered charity providing life-enhancing, residential and day-sailing activities for young people with educational support needs, disabilities, and those experiencing hardship and deprivation. We award disadvantaged young people the opportunity to not only widen their horizons but also develop their skills and capabilities through the joy and challenge of learning to sail. Beneficiaries are aged primarily from 14 – 18 but on occasion, may be as young as 10 and can be up to the age of 25. Our bursaries are wholly based on need and can be up to 100% of costs. We firmly believe in social inclusion and equality of opportunity. We provide the opportunity, financial and moral support, and sailing training expertise for those who cannot otherwise contemplate taking part in activities of this kind. We work with individuals, schools, youth groups, church and community organisations, also offering entry-level Royal Yachting Association training courses, positively contributing to CVs and long-term employment prospects, raising the aspirations of the often marginalized and vulnerable young people who we support.

The Role:

The Island Trust is seeking a part-time freelance Fundraiser with a specific focus on raising funds for young people to enable them to sail with us where otherwise they wouldn’t have the opportunity to do so. The role is for a 5 month period with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent role. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching fundraising opportunities and writing grant applications to charitable trusts or statutory bodies, ensuring targets are met, developing and organising fundraising campaigns and events, spotting fundraising opportunities and raising awareness of the organisation's work. The post offers a fantastic opportunity for an experienced fundraiser who is very organised, has excellent planning and research skills, adept at managing relationships, and the ability to communicate effectively.
