About You

You’re a quality-focused engineer with a strong interest in automation and modern testing practices. You enjoy working closely with developers and understand that quality is a shared responsibility across engineering teams. You’ve likely spent a few years building automated tests and are now looking to deepen your impact, improving how testing is approached, embedded, and scaled across systems. You think in terms of trade-offs, not just tools. You understand what should be automated, what shouldn’t, and why. You care about reliability, maintainability, and fast feedback loops. You’re proactive, curious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you can influence both tooling and ways of working.

About The Role

We’re looking for a QA Automation Engineer with a strong SDET mindset to help improve quality across our platforms and products. This role sits between traditional QA and software engineering, with a focus on building and embedding automated testing across the development lifecycle. You’ll work closely with backend, frontend, platform, and data teams to design and implement scalable automated tests, improve test coverage, and contribute to more reliable, predictable systems. Rather than owning everything end-to-end from day one, you’ll play a key role in shaping and improving our approach to automation, tooling, and quality engineering as part of a growing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automated tests across API, integration, and UI layers
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of test frameworks and tooling
  • Embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
  • Work closely with engineers to ensure testability and quality are built into solutions from the outset
  • Improve test reliability, reduce flakiness, and optimise feedback cycles
  • Support test strategy, coverage, and best practices across teams
  • Debug issues and help identify root causes across distributed systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes and engineering standards

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Increased confidence in releases through improved test coverage and reliability
  • Faster feedback cycles within development pipelines
  • Reduced defects and improved system stability
  • Strong collaboration between QA and engineering teams
  • Scalable, maintainable automated testing approaches embedded across the stack

Requirements

We’re looking for a QA Automation Engineer with a solid foundation in testing and a strong interest in modern engineering practices. This role is well suited to someone with around 3–5 years’ experience who is looking to grow into a more SDET-style role over time.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience in QA automation, SDET, or software engineering roles
  • Strong programming skills in at least one of: C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience with API testing (e.g. REST) and UI automation tools (e.g. Playwright or similar)
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into them
  • Familiarity with modern development practices (Git, branching strategies, code reviews)
  • Experience working in distributed or microservices-based systems
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Experience building or improving automation frameworks
  • Exposure to performance or load testing tools (e.g. k6, JMeter)
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with observability tooling (e.g. ELK, Grafana)
  • Knowledge of contract or security testing
  • ISTQB or similar certification

Soft Skills & Behaviours

  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership
  • Clear communicator, able to explain technical concepts effectively
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Pragmatic thinker who understands trade-offs
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and reliability
  • Growth mindset with a desire to continuously learn and improve

Benefits
