Assistant Professorships in Statistics at Warwick, UK (five posts)

Outstanding and enthusiastic academics are sought to be part of the Department of Statistics at Warwick, one of the world’s most prominent and most research active departments of Statistics. The department has close relations with the co-located Mathematics Institute and Department of Computer Science and with other departments such as Economics and the Warwick Business School, and is strongly engaged with the Alan Turing Institute. We are advertising four permanent posts and one fixed-term post, which reflects the strong commitment of the University of Warwick to invest in Statistics.

We are looking for applicants with evidence or promise of world-class research excellence to join the Department at Assistant Professor level. You will have expertise in statistics (to be interpreted in the widest sense and to include both applied and methodological statistics, data science, machine learning, probability and mathematical finance, together with interdisciplinary topics involving one or more of these areas). You will help shape research at Warwick in your discipline and deliver high quality teaching across our broad range of degree programmes.

Four permanent positions are available. We are particularly keen to make appointments in the following areas:

· Applied Statistics, to contribute to our Applied Statistics and Risk Unit and to a newly established Centre for Applications of the Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) through applied research, engagement with external partners and delivery of outcome-driven research projects.

· Data Science, broadly understood to include modern computational and theoretical statistics and machine learning.

· Stochastic Finance. Applications at the interface of stochastic finance and data science/machine learning are particularly encouraged.

but welcome applications across the spectrum of Probability and Statistics, broadly interpreted, as described above.

The 3-year fixed-term post is part of a rolling programme of Harrison early-career posts carrying a lower teaching load and intended for postdoctoral applicants with promise of world-class research excellence in statistics.

The Department of Statistics is committed to promoting equality and diversity, holding an Athena SWAN Silver award which demonstrates this commitment. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community and will give due consideration to applicants seeking flexible working patterns, and to those who have taken a career break. Further information about working at the University of Warwick, including information about childcare provision, career development and relocation is at https://warwick.ac.uk/services/humanresources/workinghere/.

Informal enquires can be addressed to Professors Jon Forster (J.J.Forster@warwick.ac.uk) or Adam Johansen (A.M.Johansen@warwick.ac.uk) or to any other senior member of the Warwick Statistics Department.
