The Institute of Promotional Marketing is the trade body for the UK promotional marketing industry. We champion best practice, provide insight, set standards, and bring the industry together through events, content and awards.
The Marketing & Events Manager is a pivotal role within IPM, responsible for shaping how the organisation communicates with members and the wider industry, delivering high-quality content and events, positioning IPM as the authoritative voice of promotional marketing. This role combines content leadership, membership marketing, event delivery and stakeholder engagement, working closely with the General Manager and key industry partners.
Key Responsibilities- Content, Insight & Thought Leadership
- Produce and curate industry insight content, covering the latest promotional marketing news, trends, regulation updates and best practice.
- Lead the planning, promotion and hosting of webinars, roundtables and online events.
- Work with industry experts, members and partners to develop compelling thought leadership content.
- Act as a visible and credible spokesperson for IPM across content, events and external communications.
- Marketing Channels & Communications
- Produce regular, high-quality content for broadcast across the IPM website, email marketing and social media channels.
- Maintain and evolve IPM's content calendar to ensure consistent, relevant and timely communications.
- Ensure messaging is clear, professional and aligned with IPM's tone of voice and brand guidelines.
- Membership Marketing
- Be the go-to contact for membership marketing, supporting recruitment, retention and engagement strategies.
- Develop and execute campaigns to communicate member benefits, services and initiatives.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure members are informed, engaged and represented.
- Events Strategy & Delivery
- Work directly with the IPM General Manager to devise and manage the annual calendar of IPM events both in-person and virtual.
- Lead the end-to-end planning, promotion, organisation and execution of events, including in-person, hybrid and virtual formats.
- Manage supplier relationships, venues, speakers and event partners.
- Ensure all events align with IPM's brand, values and strategic objectives.
- IPM Awards
- Provide key support in the marketing, organisation and delivery of the annual IPM Awards.
- Manage awards timelines, entry promotion, judging communications and event delivery.
- Work with sponsors, judges and agencies to ensure a high-quality awards programme that celebrates industry excellence.
- Reporting, Budgets & Performance
- Provide insightful reporting on marketing and event performance, using data to inform future activity.
- Own and manage marketing and event budgets, ensuring strong ROI and financial accountability.
- Track engagement, attendance, membership metrics and campaign effectiveness.
- Essential
- Proven experience in a marketing and/or events management role, ideally within a membership organisation, trade body or professional services environment.
- Experienced in producing content in multiple formats for varying channels.
- Experience working with website CMS and CRM systems.
- Strong working knowledge of design tools ie Canva and other content creation tools.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident communicator able to act as a spokesperson and represent IPM professionally.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to produce clear, insightful reports.
- Experience managing marketing and event budgets.
- Desirable
- Experience delivering industry events, awards programmes or conferences.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms (Hubspot) and social media management tools.
- Experience working with sponsors, partners or external agencies.
- Interest or background in promotional marketing, experiential marketing or adjacent industries.
Salary - £38,000 - £42,000 dependent on experience
