About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Trainee Animal Technician apprentice to join our Biological Services Unit (BSU) and support the ICR scientific community. The BSU maintains high standards of animal care and welfare in accordance with The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
The role involves comprehensive training in animal husbandry, welfare monitoring, and facility hygiene. It aims to develop your skills for progression within the BSU team, with opportunities for regrading based on performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily husbandry and care for laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, and bedding changes.
- Monitor animal health and welfare, reporting concerns promptly.
- Maintain animal rooms and working areas according to SOPs and hygiene standards.
About You
Interest in animal care and welfare with GCSE passes in four subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, or a Science subject.
Strong empathy and respect for animals.

Willing to participate in rota-based weekend and holiday work.
