Applications are invited for appointments as a Clinical Lecturer on the Specialty Training Programme in the following:

1 x ST3-ST6 at the ICR. Response Mode

Eligibility Guidance

This post is for the trainees who have completed a relevant higher degree that is PhD or MD (original research). You must have submitted your thesis by the time of application and been awarded your higher degree by the post start date.

ST6 Applicants are only eligible to apply if they have a minimum of 12 calendar months to CCT completion at the start date of this post. Applicants who have less than 12 months to CCT completion are not eligible to apply.

Key Dates

Advert closing date: 14th August 2026

Interview date: TBC 10th September 2026 – 17th September 2026 (Subject to change)

Interview venue: Remote interviews via Microsoft teams (access to a microphone, camera and good Wi‑Fi connection is essential)

Posts commence on: 1 st March 2027 – ST3 entry

Interview Process

Document checking: Please have ready one form of Photo Identification for document checking.

Length of interview: 30 minutes.

Interview structure: A single station interview covering different criteria from the person specification.

Preferencing Posts: For vacancies advertising multiple posts, preferencing will be made available via Oriel; more information will follow at a later stage.

Entry Grade

For ST3 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Clinical Oncology and must be ST3 at post start date.

Or

Must have completed a separate standard clinical application to Clinical Oncology ST3 national recruitment (called Clinical Benchmarking) and have attended an assessment/interview for Clinical Oncology ST3 in 2026 and have been found appointable.

Important information about training grades

Please note that the grade/s advertised are the grade/s at post start date. This means that applicants must be eligible to train at the advertised grade/s at the start date of the post.

Please be aware that trainees are not permitted to repeat training for the purposes of taking up a CL post and trainees are not permitted to start at a grade that is not advertised.

As an example, if a post is advertised at ST3 grade, then a current ST3 trainee who is on track to become an ST4 trainee at the post start date would NOT under any circumstances be permitted to take up the CL post at ST3 grade as this would entail repeating training that has already been completed. If you are in receipt of an ARCP at the grade you are applying to, you will not be eligible for that grade.

Clinical Benchmarking

As stated above, applicants without a Deanery Reference Number (DRN) or National Training Number (NTN) in the GMC core/specialty training programme and level to which they are applying must have been found appointable at the core/speciality training interviews in the 2026 Recruitment Round 1/Round 2 (where applicable). If no national recruitment is available at the core/specialty training programme and level to which they are applying, applicants without a DRN/NTN are ineligible. This award is for completion of CCT/ CESR (CP) subject to satisfactory progression.

Applicants who are in a dual training programme must provide both ARCPs demonstrating satisfactory progression.

Program Features

• Attachments of 6 months to enable trainees to develop site specialist skills being taught regularly by a variety of leaders in their field.
• It is based around the Academic Unit of Radiotherapy which is nationally/internationally recognised for its programme of radiotherapy based research. The unit consists of 7 Professors of Clinical Oncology, and 4 Clinician Scientists plus Royal Marsden consultants with honorary ICR faculty status.
• Extensive involvement in clinical trials (over 100 currently) means that trainees at Royal Marsden Hospital FT have considerable exposure to clinical research and trial methodology. For Clinical lecturers this will be further enhanced by specific preparation for an academic career.
• Clinical lecturers will be encouraged to develop a wide range of generic skills including exposure to management and teaching activity.
