IFSA Sessional Instructor: Nutrition Disease Prevent, Fall 2026

The Institute for Study Abroad is seeking an instructor to teach a course entitled “Nutrition and Disease Prevention” for the IFSA Health Sciences Career Accelerator (HSCA) programme over the upcoming Fall semester. The HSCA program provides medicine, nursing, public health, and health‑care administration students with an opportunity to continue progress toward their degree and gain valuable international and practical experience.

Within the HSCA, the Nutrition and Disease Prevention course provides an overview of the principles of human nutrition with an emphasis on the prevention and management of disease. It explores the biological mechanisms by which nutrients affect health, the role of diet in chronic disease development, and the influence of cultural, socioeconomic, and political factors on dietary patterns. Students will examine evidence‑based guidelines, engage in case studies, and analyze dietary data to inform health‑promoting behaviors and policy awareness.

The instructor will teach the class, be responsible for assessment and marking, and design at least two co‑curricular activities such as guest speakers, site visits or other appropriate events designed to expose students to new perspectives and help them integrate, apply, and synthesize key learning. The syllabus has been approved by our School of Record, however minor modifications can be made in agreement with the Academic Programs Manager. This is a great opportunity for faculty, postdocs, and PhD students.

• Teach the Nutrition and Disease Prevention course over the Fall semester (2 September – 17 December 2026).
• Deliver 45 contact hours across two sessions (Monday and Wednesday 11:00‑12:30).
• Provide one office hour per week for students.
• Assess and mark student submissions.
• Coordinate and deliver at least two co‑curricular activities such as guest speakers or site visits.
• Ensure the course is delivered via the designated Virtual Learning Environment.
• Maintain accurate records of progress and attendance.

• At least a master’s degree in a relevant subject and a minimum of two years of work towards a PhD.
• Experience of teaching and assessment at university level in the UK and/or US higher education setting.
• Understanding of teaching principles in a diverse classroom environment.
• Commitment to and experience of fostering active learning.
• Familiarity with using Virtual Learning Environments.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Right to work as self‑employed in the UK (no visa sponsorship or PAYE).

• Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. Fellowship of Advance HE or similar).
• Experience delivering teaching to US study abroad students.
• Familiarity with US assessment and degree program structures.
