IFSA Sessional Instructor: Fantasy in the Real World: Literature Through the Sociological Lens (Fall 2026)

The Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA) is seeking an instructor to teach a course entitled “Fantasy in the Real World: Literature Through the Sociological Lens” for the IFSA London programme over the upcoming Fall semester.
Responsibilities
- Teach the course sessions (Tuesday and Thursday 1:30–3:00 PM) for 16 weeks, totaling 45 contact hours.
- Develop and deliver lecture content and assessments.
- Provide at least two co‑curricular activities such as guest speakers or site visits to enhance learning.
- Hold one office hour per week for student support.
- Mark and assess student work in line with academic standards.
- Collaborate with the Academic Programs Manager for any minor syllabus adjustments.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- At least 2 years of work towards a PhD in a relevant subject area.
- Experience teaching at university level.
- Understanding of teaching principles in a diverse classroom environment.
- Commitment to and experience fostering active learning.
- Familiarity with using Virtual Learning Environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Fellowship of Advance HE).
- Experience delivering teaching to US study abroad students.
- Familiarity with US assessment and degree program structures.
Contract & Working Conditions
Semester dates: 2 September 2026 – 17 December 2026. The position is a fixed‑term contract for the Fall term only, with possible renewal for Spring based on student demand and performance. Candidates must have right to work as self‑employed in the UK; the role is not eligible for visa sponsorship or PAYE.
