- Position Overview
Reporting to the Station Manager, the Winter Operations Manager is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of aircraft de-icing, glycol recovery, pad valve management, and fluid processing activities.
This role provides operational leadership, employee development, regulatory compliance oversight, equipment and facility coordination, and customer service support while fostering a strong safety culture and maintaining positive relationships with customers, airport partners, and other stakeholders.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Including But Not Limited To)
- Lead daily winter operations, including aircraft de-icing, glycol recovery, pad valve management, and fluid processing activities while ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and adherence to company policies, procedures, SOPs, and operational plans.
- Supervise, coach, schedule, and evaluate winter operations staff while supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, certification tracking, and employee development.
- Monitor weather and operational requirements to determine staffing needs, coordinate resources, and improve productivity through cross-training and workforce planning.
- Oversee operational documentation, reporting, training records, inventory records, and other required company and regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance programs, spare parts inventories, storm preparedness activities, snow removal efforts, and facility operational readiness.
- Support fluid management programs, including fluid handling, storage, transfers, disposal processes, tracking, segregation requirements, and environmental compliance.
- Maintain effective communication and strong working relationships with employees, customers, airport authorities, airlines, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- Required Skills And Experience
- Post-secondary education in Aviation Management, Business Management, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum five years of airline operations experience, including areas such as customer service, maintenance, de-icing operations, facility operations, and safety or regulatory compliance.
- Previous supervisory and/or management experience in an operational environment.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, airline procedures, aircraft handling practices, warehouse operations, and station equipment.
- Ability to successfully complete IDS's de-icing training program, including classroom and on-the-job training.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead teams, prepare reports, share information effectively, and adapt to changing business needs.

- Flexible schedule required due to the seasonal nature of operations and weather-dependent operational demands.
- Supervises Deicing Supervisors and Equipment/Recovery Operators.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Valid RAIC and AVOP required; ROC-A certification required.
- Combination of office, ramp, and processing plant work environments with exposure to weather, moving equipment, noise, fumes, vibration, and other operational conditions.
- Must be physically capable of standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., operating industrial equipment, wearing required PPE, and performing duties in a safety-sensitive environment.
