The HR Advisor – Employee Relations, Performance & People Risk is responsible for managing employee relations, performance management and people risk across the UK and US. This role provides calm, pragmatic and legally sound advice to managers, ensuring people issues are handled fairly, consistently and confidently. This is a judgement-led advisory role, not a policy-writing or admin position.
Key responsibilities
- Own ER cases including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance
- Advise managers on proportionate, fair and legally sound approaches
- Ensure cases are well documented and consistent with precedent
- Escalate high-risk or complex matters appropriately
- Support performance management frameworks and processes
- Coach managers through difficult conversations
- Build manager confidence and capability in handling people issues
- Identify and mitigate people-related risk across the business
- Apply policies consistently and manage precedent
- Support policy updates and compliance activities
- Partner with external legal advisors where required
- Support payroll administration processes by ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication of changes linked to ER outcomes (e.g. absence, salary changes, leavers)
- Support Learning & Development activity from a performance and capability perspective, including tracking and coordination where needed
- Assist with wellness and culture plans, contributing to initiatives that strengthen engagement and support retention
- Help organise and coordinate team days and internal events in partnership with the wider People team
- Act as secondary support on recruitment and onboarding where risk is present
- Work closely with the People Coordinator on documentation and tracking
- Build trusted relationships across teams and leadership
Skills & experience
- 3–6 years’ experience in an HR / People Advisor role
- Strong ER and performance management experience
- Calm judgement and confident communication style
- Comfortable challenging and advising managers constructively
