About us
The Independent is an online news publisher that was established in 1986 as a national newspaper independent of party political affiliations or proprietorial influence. In 2016, The Independent became a fully digital publisher, moving away from print in pursuit of sustainability, and to safeguard its values and journalism for the future.
The Independent has always thrived through innovation and change. It was the first British newspaper to add a Saturday magazine; the first to give photography the same prestige as a news copy; the first to challenge the Westminster lobby system of closed briefings; the first broadsheet to move to the more compact ‘tabloid’ format; the first to launch a concise quality compact paper; and the first – and only – major newspaper to pull off a successful transformation to fully digital publishing.
Through The Independent, Independent TV, eCommerce, indy100, subscriptions and other ‘reader revenues’, The Independent plans to continue the work of many decades, bringing much-needed independent journalism to over 100 million unique global visitors a month, making its voice ever louder and more insistent the world over.
We have an international editorial team with our main offices in London and New York.
Independent Studio is The Independent’s hub for original visual and audio storytelling. Our studio content spans podcasts, interviews, roundtable debates, documentaries, and live recordings — all driven by the values and editorial insight of The Independent. With a growing footprint in both the UK and US markets, Independent Studio produces dynamic multimedia content across platforms, serving audiences hungry for stories that are smart, authentic, and visually engaging.
About ACFC
ACFC is The Independent’s in-house football tactics brand. Hosted by football creator and analyst Adam Clery, ACFC delivers weekly tactical explainers, podcast episodes, and social videos that explore the game in depth — with a sharp, accessible style built for fans of the Premier League, EFL and European football. The brand is growing rapidly across platforms and has an engaged, loyal audience who value its intelligence, humour and insight.
The Role
We are looking for a talented, football-savvy Video Editor to join the ACFC team at The Independent. Reporting to the Director of Video Operations this role is perfect for someone who lives and breathes football — and knows exactly how fans want to engage with the game online. You’ll work closely with Adam Clery and the wider team to edit weekly long-form videos, tactical analysis explainers, a regular podcast, and short-form content for social platforms. You will be expected to contribute creatively to the brand’s evolution, bringing both technical excellence and storytelling flair to every project. This is a role for someone who is equal parts editor, football obsessive, and creative collaborator — someone who can take ownership of edits, contribute ideas in brainstorms, and help define the look and feel of one of The Independent’s fastest-growing video brands.
You are:
- An experienced video editor, highly fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro, with additional skills in Photoshop and After Effects
- A football expert — comfortable analysing tactics, player systems, and the wider footballing landscape
- Experienced in editing for YouTube and social-first platforms (TikTok, Reels, Shorts), especially in a creator-led format
- A confident post-production specialist with strong narrative instincts and a high bar for quality
- Comfortable editing both long-form content (15–30 minutes) and short, punchy vertical video
- Organised, flexible, and comfortable with a workflow that aligns with the football calendar, including evening and weekend fixtures when needed
- Open to using tools like Descript for audio-first workflows and creative support (training can be provided)
- A proactive team player who is as comfortable ideating as you are exporting on deadline
Key Responsibilities:
- Edit ACFC’s YouTube shows starring and written by Adam Clery
- Produce and edit the ACFC podcast, including video and audio cutdowns
- Create and adapt short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
- Contribute to the creative development of the ACFC brand’s style, voice, and visual identity
- Support the wider team in delivering reactive content based on news and fixtures
- Maintain high-quality standards across all edits, including pacing, polish, and platform optimisation
- Take an active role in internal team meetings, brainstorms, and post-mortems to improve future content
Location & Working Pattern:
This role is London-based and primarily office-based, with flexibility required around major football events and matchdays. Some evening and weekend availability will be expected based on the football calendar.
Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience editing football or sports content
- Motion graphics or animation skills for tactical overlays and explainers
- Understanding of YouTube SEO and metadata best practices
- Experience working with creators, influencers, or in branded content environments
- Enthusiasm for The Independent’s values and a desire to grow with a forward-thinking media brand
