Science Lead and Key Stage 2 Maths Teacher

We are currently looking to appoint a Class Teacher who will be responsible for teaching pupils at Key Stage 2, specifically in Maths and Science. The role-holder will be expected to provide an inspirational, fun and broad curriculum for children at the appropriate national curriculum level, which reflects the School’s ethos and promotes a life‑long love of learning. The role-holder will also be required to teach the Maths and Science curriculum for Key Stage 2 pupils. Therefore, there will be a requirement for the role-holder to have experience of teaching Science at this level or, alternatively, have relevant Science and Maths qualifications. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to support our School ethos by not only providing excellent teaching, but through supporting pupils’ wider development with excellent pastoral care and a willingness to become involved in the School's extra‑cultural programme. This role will be based at Ripley Court School and will be full time.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach Maths to Key Stage 2 pupils, ensuring that planning and preparation meets their individual needs.
• Display a high level of understanding of Mathematics and an in depth knowledge of the 11+ process.
• Prepare Year 5 and 6 pupils for the 11+ and entrance tests in Maths and provide suitable revision documents in consultation with the Head of Maths.
• Provide regular reports to the Head of Maths regarding progress of pupils.
• Produce schemes of work for Science across Key Stage 2, ensuring that lessons are at the appropriate national curriculum level.
• Teach Science to Key Stage 2 pupils and be the lead in the Science curriculum for the whole School.
• Maintain and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful and stimulating environment which is conducive to children’s learning.
• Promote learning and celebrate achievement through bright, varied and up to date class displays.
• Plan, prepare and deliver high quality, differentiated lessons across the curriculum.
• Plan opportunities to develop spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of pupils’ learning.
• Enable pupils to develop and maintain positive attitudes towards learning.
• Monitor and be responsible for the progress of individual students’ thorough marking, assessment, recording and reporting.
• Implement strategies to support SEND and EAL pupils in the classroom.
• Promote high standards of behaviour and discipline among the pupils, safeguarding their health and safety.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, briefings and planning meetings, INSET days and to share in a range of supervisory duties throughout the day.
• Ensure that School policies are reflected in daily practice.
• Promote strong relationships with parents and carers, communicating with them about all aspects of their child’s education – academic, social and emotional.
• Attend parents’ evenings, information evenings and other school wide events and residential trips where required.
• Undertake such other comparable duties as the Headmaster requires from time to time.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
