Bury Grammar School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, well qualified Teacher of General Science to join our vibrant and highly successful Science Faculty on a 1-year Fixed Term Contract from September 2026. We welcome full-time, part-time, or job share applications. This is an excellent opportunity for both Early Career Teachers and experienced practitioners.

The Department

Science at Bury Grammar School is thriving, well-resourced and academically ambitious. Each of our three disciplines; Biology, Chemistry and Physics, are taught separately from Key Stage 3 through to A Level. We find this enables students to develop deep subject knowledge and a strong scientific mindset.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach General Science across KS3 and KS4, delivering high quality, engaging lessons.
  • Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development.
  • Support pupils’ academic progress and wider personal development.
  • Participate actively in the wider life of Bury Grammar School, including enrichment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds a relevant Science based-degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching at KS3 and KS4.
  • Specialist knowledge weighted more heavily in Chemistry or Biology would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Has strong organisational skills, and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
