As an Audio Visual Technician Apprentice, you will support presentations, performances and events across the school, gaining real world experience in sound, lighting and technical theatre. You will combine practical work with one day per week of study as part of your apprenticeship. This Level 3 apprenticeship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn on the job while working alongside experienced technicians in a busy and creative school environment.
Responsibilities
- Help design and programme sound and lighting for events and performances
- Support rigging, layout changes and technical preparation across multiple spaces
- Assist with routine equipment checks, maintenance and Portable Appliance Testing
- Help monitor stock, stores and day-to-day technical resources
- Support health and safety standards within performance and theatre spaces
- Assist with set building, painting, prop making and event setup
- Attend rehearsals, meetings and events, including some evening and weekend work
- Support the IT team during quieter periods and school holidays when required
Qualifications
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 or above, or willingness to complete Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship
- A genuine interest in audio visual technology, theatre or live events
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to take direction
- Reliability, good organisation skills and attention to detail
- An interest or basic knowledge of lighting, sound, IT systems, set building or live performance, although this is not essential
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
- The physical capability to undertake manual handling, work at height and use technical equipment safely
- A commitment to personal development and learning new skills
Hours & Salary
- Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (24-month apprenticeship programme)
- Salary: Apprenticeship pay scale
