With its own boathouse on the Thames, the school offers outstanding facilities and a supportive environment for young athletes to grow. Boys and girls who first rowed in a boat at KGS have gone on to win at the U19 World Championships, National Schools’ Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta, the University Boat Race, the World Championships, and the Olympic Games. This long‑term success reflects the environment created at the boat club by the coaches - focused, fun, committed and consistent.
We are seeking session coaches to support the development of our third year (Year 9) athletes. You will be coaching boys and girls who have completed around 12 weeks of rowing and are keen to learn, improve, and enjoy the sport. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is committed to helping young athletes build strong technical foundations in a positive, structured setting.
We are looking for enthusiastic coaches who can motivate and engage young athletes whilst setting high standards. You will have a rowing style, technique or stroke profile you believe in, a passion for rowing and for enabling those they coach to reach their potential. Experience coaching junior rowers or a strong personal rowing background is essential as is the awareness of how to run a session safely on a busy river.
The successful coaches will have confidence managing mixed groups at an early stage of their rowing journey and a positive, supportive coaching style. The contract will be for an initial fixed term of three months from April 2026 until July 2026. You would need to be primarily available on a Saturday afternoon and the occasional Tuesday or Thursday afternoon, but the role would work around your rowing commitments and can offer flexibility in terms of hours.
