We are seeking a talented, customer-centric Sports Hub Manager, who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our Sports Centre and Facilities as well as lead on the planning and delivery of our popular holiday camp programme. This role is perfect for an experienced sports and leisure manager who is passionate about creating fun, active and engaging experiences for young people through the holiday camp programme, as well as running the sports centre throughout the year.

You will be involved with but not limited to the following duties:

  • Continuing to develop the holiday camp programme
  • Overseeing the smooth running of the Sports Hub and outdoor sports areas
  • Developing customer relationships
  • Ensuring safety of the clients
  • Heading up team recruitment, training and development, shift rostering
  • Coaching
  • General running of services
  • Administration
  • Dealing with customers' questions
  • First Aid
  • Health and safety

The successful candidate will have a strong sporting background, excellent communication and customer service skills, a background in leisure management and a genuine love of the company of children. There will be occasional evening and weekend working to cover the Sports Facilities opening times.

The following are a summary of the kinds of tasks expected. This is not an exhaustive list.

General:

  • Maintain operating procedures, including risk assessments
  • Oversee maintenance, cleaning; recruiting, training and supervising staff, including managing staff rotas
  • Carrying out health and safety checks on the equipment and site to include weekly and monthly checks, reporting any maintenance issues to the facilities team
  • Carry out regular benchmarking of our offering against that of competitors, reviewing revenue streams and taking a data-driven approach to developing programmes that maximise revenue and usage of facilities
  • Handling complaints and incidents, e.g., accidents, emergencies, or theft
  • To be responsible for the work programme of the casual coaches and Sports Attendants

Holiday Camps:

  • Child safety is our key priority; the welfare of the children is paramount
  • Develop the camp offering for each holiday camp programme, liaising with third parties and internal colleagues, and lead on the planning, administration, preparation and delivery
  • Work with HR to ensure effective staff coverage, leading on the recruitment of staff where required as well as the creation of staff rosters
  • Supervision responsibilities include lunch, morning, and afternoon breaks, implementing our behaviour management policy, overseeing the use of equipment and upholding health and safety standards and procedures
  • Create all required promotional materials for the weekly activities and work alongside the marketing and communications department to actively promote and engage consumers
  • During camp season, ensure effective staff coverage 8am to 6pm, act as head coach during the holiday period, installing a positive and enjoyable working environment for the full team, both internal and external

Sports Hub:

  • Designing and promoting classes and activities to meet customer demand and generate revenue
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure positive communication and engagement on all let bookings, coordinating set up, cleaning and maintenance of all spaces
  • Deliver fitness training or coaching in sports activities, develop a programme suitable for the Henderson Row Strength and Conditioning Suite, adding an additional revenue stream to our portfolio
  • Develop an attractive range of children's birthday party packages to promote to the external market, maximising use of the facilities within lull times, expanding our customer reach and brand awareness

Financial, HR and Administrative Responsibility:

  • Lead on the recruitment of staff and ensure effective staff coverage across all areas of responsibility
  • Adhere to the companies or organisation’s policies and procedures including Health & Safety, Fire Regulations etc.
  • Ensure all team members are trained in end of day procedures to include till operations and venue lock down
  • Ensuring own and staff members' First Aid and all other necessary training is up to date
  • Suggest changes or improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and cost reductions
  • Assisting with ad hoc admin duties, suggest changes or improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and cost reductions
  • Attend and contribute to meetings and events as required during working days

While these are the key responsibilities of the role, this is not necessarily an exhaustive list, and other duties may be required to ensure the smooth running of events in Edinburgh Academy facilities.

Proven Experience:

  • At least 12 months’ experience working with children from 5 – 17 years
  • At least 12 months’ experience in a leadership position in a Leisure or customer-facing environment
  • Passion for play, physical activity, and a healthy lifestyle is desirable

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Childcare, sports or teaching related degree (or related qualification)
  • Knowledge and experience of Child Protection, Safeguarding and Health and Safety
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate
  • Safeguarding experience and understanding
  • First Aid certificate
