Bury Grammar School is seeking to appoint a capable and committed Primary Division Kitchen Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day catering operations within our Primary Division. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated catering professional to play a key role in delivering a high-quality food service to pupils and staff while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, nutrition and customer care.

Working within a busy school environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, supporting and supervising catering staff, and ensuring pupils receive nutritious, well-presented meals in a safe and welcoming environment.

The Role

  • Supervise the daily operation of the Primary Division kitchen and catering service.
  • Prepare, cook and present meals to a consistently high standard.
  • Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, health and safety, and environmental health regulations, including SFBB, COSHH, HACCP and risk assessment requirements.
  • Support menu planning and development, ensuring meals meet School Food Standards and provide nutritionally balanced options appropriate for primary-aged pupils.
  • Cater for pupils and staff with a range of dietary requirements and allergies, ensuring individual needs are carefully managed.
  • Maintain compliance with current food safety legislation, including allergen management and food labelling requirements.
  • Oversee food ordering, stock control and stock takes, ensuring effective budget management and minimal food waste.
  • Monitor portion control and food quality standards throughout preparation and service.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure it is used safely and appropriately.
  • Support the planning and delivery of hospitality events, themed catering activities and special functions where required.
  • Attend and contribute to student committee meetings, responding positively to feedback and suggestions where appropriate.
  • Supervise, support and motivate a small catering team, ensuring high standards of performance and customer service are maintained.
  • Promote a positive dining experience for pupils, staff and visitors.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience within a catering or kitchen supervisory role.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and allergen management requirements.
  • Has experience of menu planning, stock control and food ordering.
  • Demonstrates excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Has the ability to oversee, motivate and support a team effectively.
  • Takes pride in delivering high standards of food quality and customer service.
  • Works well under pressure and remains calm in a busy environment.
  • Is proactive, reliable and able to use initiative.
  • Has a commitment to promoting healthy eating and positive dining experiences for young people.
