This is a varied and interesting role offering exposure across HR, governance, compliance, safeguarding administration, finance and wider school operations. This is a full-time all-year-round position working 8.30am–5.00pm weekdays together with occasional reception cover requirements.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Exercise loyalty to the Headmaster and to the School, upholding and maintaining its traditions and ethos.
- Set and maintain high standards of work, as well as of personal and professional conduct.
- Comply with all regulatory requirements including those relating to data protection.
- Comply fully with the requirements as set out in the DfE document ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and any relevant supplementary guidance and in the HM Government document ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ and any relevant supplementary guidance.
- Abide by the School’s current systems and structures as outlined in policy documents including the First Aid and Health, Health and Safety and Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies, and take appropriate action in accordance with all such documents as and when necessary.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and parents/carers.
- Participate as required in meetings with colleagues and parents in respect of the duties and responsibilities of the post.
- Take responsibility for one’s own professional development, attending INSET days at the start of each term and attending other relevant courses whenever possible.
- Be punctual and adaptable, and dress in a smart but practical manner.
- Engage with the Christian foundation of the School.
Core Purpose of the Post
- To promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young persons for whom the post holder has responsibility and with whom the post holder comes into contact.
- To provide professional, efficient and confidential administrative support to the Bursar and wider Bursary function.
- The role includes responsibility for supporting HR administration, governance administration, regulatory filings, document preparation and maintenance of accurate operational records.
- The postholder will be expected to work proactively and independently within established procedures and reporting structures, demonstrating initiative, discretion, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines appropriately.
- The role requires a flexible and collaborative approach together with an understanding of when matters should be referred to the Bursar or wider senior leadership team.
Key Performance Areas
- Provide professional administrative support to the Bursar and Bursary.
- Prepare, issue and maintain confidential HR documentation including contracts, employment records and onboarding documentation.
- Maintain accurate HR, safeguarding, Single Central Register and compliance-related records where required.
- Support recruitment and safer recruitment administration processes.
- Assist with Companies House and Charity Commission filings and associated governance records.
- Support the preparation, circulation and publication of governor and committee papers.
- Maintain accurate filing, document management and record systems.
- Assist with the administration of operational compliance processes where required.
- Provide reception and administrative cover during staff absence periods.
- Support the coordination of deadlines and administrative workflows across the Bursary function.
General Duties
- To participate in the school’s staff appraisal system.
- To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people (Keeping Children Safe in Education).
- To present the best possible image of the school in general, and, in particular, in all contact and communications with the general public, visitors, parents, students, customers, suppliers and all other external organisations.
- To undertake training and staff development as needed and as determined by the school management.
- To undertake such other duties, commensurate with the post which the Executive Management Team may reasonably and occasionally require, including working evenings and covering for absent colleagues.
