The Independent Football Regulator (IFR) is being established to strengthen the long-term stability and sustainability of English football. As part of its launch, the IFR is building a Supervision function that sits at the core of its mission. This team will oversee financial analysis, licensing, and compliance activity while shaping the IFR’s relationship with the clubs it regulates. The IFR is now recruiting a Supervision Senior Manager to play a central role in the early stages of this new organisation.
The impact you’ll make
This position helps define how supervision operates in its first months and years. You lead financial oversight work, support licensing decisions and monitor ongoing compliance with regulatory rules. You also act as a credible point of contact for clubs, guiding them clearly while maintaining objectivity and independence.
The role involves building the frameworks, controls and processes required for effective financial supervision. You work closely with data, policy, legal and enforcement teams so that decisions are robust, consistent and grounded in evidence. You help the IFR Board reach informed outcomes and contribute to the early shaping of a new regulatory environment.
You provide insight on risk, oversee prudential analysis and engage with complex information to reach sound conclusions. You support the development of operating procedures, reporting structures and delivery standards that ensure the IFR is equipped to regulate confidently and transparently.
Your skills and experience
You are an experienced finance professional or Chartered Accountant with strong post-qualification industry experience. Experience in financial supervision, audit, risk management or regulatory compliance is important. Backgrounds gained in football are valuable, though not essential.
You understand financial regulation and have familiarity with how the English football pyramid operates. You make balanced, evidence-based decisions and handle complex information with sound judgement. You also work well in environments where pace, scrutiny and cross-functional collaboration are part of everyday delivery.
You communicate clearly, influence with credibility and bring a practical mindset to new and emerging challenges. You enjoy building capability in a developing organisation and contribute positively to long-term success.
