The i Paper is the only national newspaper that has never supported a political party and it reaches more than 9.2 million readers each month in print and online. It is committed to delivering accurate, impartial news and intelligent debate, trusting readers to make up their own minds. It is the winner of 2024 UK Newspaper of the Year and is rapidly growing its digital subscriptions base, recently hitting 70k total subscriptions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Sub-editing journalism across The i Paper’s print product including news, features, money, opinion and culture.
  • Ensuring all editorial content adheres to The i Paper's style guide and is legally and factually accurate.
  • Ability to identify potentially sensitive content and escalating to department heads where necessary.
  • Working closely with editors and colleagues to ensure a consistent tone of voice across i's brand as a whole.

Person Specification

  • A flair and passion for language, excellent news sense, great initiative, and the ability to write headlines and furniture that sing.
  • A strong interest in news and current affairs.
  • The ability to work quickly, creatively, and accurately under pressure, to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of InCopy and InDesign, as well as content management systems such as Atex.
  • Strong copy-subbing skills, from crafting compelling prose to spotting legal problems.
  • Experience in a sub-editing role, preferably at a daily title. Used to handling fast-moving news stories and able to juggle competing demands.
